Unraveling LINE‐1 retrotransposition in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The novel RetroTest method allows the detection of L1 activation in clinical samples with low DNA input, providing global L1 activity and the identification of the L1 source element. We applied RetroTest to a real‐world cohort of HNSCC patients where we reported an early L1 activation, with more than 60% of T1 patients showing L1 activity.

Diaspora and coincidence [PDF]

open access: yesQJM: An International Journal of Medicine, 2005
The glories of ancient Sparta were inscribed in blood, not in poetry or art. The ruins that still exist are scanty, uninspiring, overgrown and little visited. The modern city too is a drab place, laid out on a grid. If you have travelled to Sparta in the hope of recapturing the magical experience of seeing Delphi, Olympia or Athens for the first time ...

Ghost Interference with Optical Parametric Amplifier

open access: yes, 2004
The 'Ghost' interference experiment is analyzed when the source of entangled photons is a multimode Optical Parametric Amplifier(OPA) whose weak limit is the two-photon Spontaneous Parametric Downconversion(SPDC) beam.

Coincidence invariants and higher Reidemeister traces [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The Lefschetz number and fixed point index can be thought of as two different descriptions of the same invariant. The Lefschetz number is algebraic and defined using homology.

Molecular Screening of SCN1A‐Related Seizures in Children With Febrile Seizures: Diagnostic Yield and Variant Distribution

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective SCN1A‐related seizures first present as febrile seizures (FS). Definitive features emerge later, making early diagnosis challenging. We evaluated the diagnostic yield and clinical characteristics of pathogenic SCN1A variants in FS, and analyzed the effect of variant characteristics on clinical phenotypes required for early ...

Observation of correlated-photon statistics using a single detector [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
We report experimental observations of correlated-photon statistics in the single-photon detection rate. The usual quantum interference in a two-photon polarization interferometer always accompanies a dip in the single detector counting rate, regardless ...

Serum Neurofilament Light Chain in Multiple Sclerosis: Superiority of Age‐ and BMI‐Corrected Z Scores/Percentiles Over Absolute Cutoff Values for Prediction of Treatment Response

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Prognostication of disease course and prediction of treatment response in multiple sclerosis is an unmet need. We compared the performance of serum neurofilament light chain Z scores (age‐ and BMI‐adjusted) with absolute concentrations for the prediction of response to disease‐modifying therapy.

Aspects of the cosmological “coincidence problem” [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The observational fact that the present values of the densities of dark energy and dark matter are of the same order of magnitude, $$\rho _{\mathrm{de}0}/\rho _{\mathrm{dm}0} \sim \mathcal {O}(1)$$ρde0/ρdm0∼O(1), seems to indicate that we are currently ...

Real‐World Cost‐Effectiveness of a Standardized Education and Exercise Therapy Program for Hip and Knee Osteoarthritis Compared to Usual Care

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective We estimated the real‐world cost‐effectiveness of a standardized education and exercise therapy program (GLA:D) compared to usual care (UC) for people managing hip and/or knee osteoarthritis (HKOA). Methods We used a prospective matched cohort design to recruit people (aged >45 years) diagnosed with HKOA who used GLA:D or UC (not on a ...

Gender Essentialisms

open access: yesFeminist Philosophy Quarterly, 2023
Charlotte Witt has argued that gender is essential to women and men, in a way that unifies them as social individuals but precludes each of them from being identified with the corresponding person or human organism.
