Coir Fibers

Textile Research Journal, 1984
Coir ( Cocos nucifera ), a ligno-cellulosic fiber, is cheap and abundant in the coastal regions of tropical countries. In this paper the effect of physical and chemical treatments on the mechanical properties of coir fibers is reported. Changes in moisture regain, crystallite orientation, and percentage crystallinity were observed when fibers were ...

Alkali treatment of coir fibres for coir-polyester composites

Journal of Materials Science, 1983
Coir fibres were subjected to alkali treatment with a view to improving the wettability of coir fibres by a commercially available resin such as polyester. Tensile strength of the fibres increases by 15% when the fibres are soaked in 5% aqueous solution of NaOH at 28±1° C for 72 to 76 h after which it shows a gradual decrease.

Performance Analysis of Coir and Coir Products Export from India

Indian Journal of Economics and Development, 2021
The present paper looks into the growth, instability, and sources of growth and instability of coir products export from India. Total coir export was found to have significant increase over the years. A drastic shift from finished products like handloom mats, coir yarn, and handloom mattings to products like coir fibre and coir pith in the composition ...

Characteristics Analysis of Coir Fiber and Performance Evaluation of Coir Fiberboard

Advanced Materials Research, 2010
SEM observations of coir fiber microstructure have been carried out. Uneven surface characteristics are conducive to the bonding between coir fibers and resin materials. The unique advantages of coir fiber have been verified. Doing orthogonal experiment design for coir fiberboard, the coir fiberboard can meet the mechanical properties of National ...

CoIR: Compressive Implicit Radar

IEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence
Using millimeter wave (mmWave) signals for imaging has an important advantage in that they can penetrate through poor environmental conditions such as fog, dust, and smoke that severely degrade optical-based imaging systems. However, mmWave radars, contrary to cameras and LiDARs, suffer from low angular resolution because of small physical apertures ...

Industry Development at COIR

In developing India, the traditional coir industry employs 0.55 million people. Production of coconuts and coir is dominated by Kerala. Karnataka and Tamilnadu afterwards provide good coir. India is benefiting from the manufacturing of coir. This is having an impact on the coir sector due to commercial enterprises.

Polypropylene/chemically treated coir composites: optimizing coir delignification conditions using central composite design

Cellulose, 2017
The effect of alkaline treatment of coir on polypropylene/coir composite properties was investigated, using a two-factor central composite design where NaOH concentration and reaction time were varied. Alkaline treatment favored delignification, and at certain conditions, increased composite stiffness without loss in tensile strength.
