Coir fibre toxicity: In vivo and in vitro studies

Toxicology Letters, 1982
The biological activity of coir fibre, coir ash and their components were investigated in vitro by measuring the haemolytic activity and macrophage cytotoxicity. In vivo studies carried out by injecting guinea pigs intratracheally with coir fibres resulted in resolving granulomas.

MECHANICAL AND VISCOELASTIC PROPERTIES OF COCONUT COIR FIBRE REINFORCED HIGH-DENSITY POLYETHYLENE COMPOSITE FOR APPLICATION AS WALL TILE

FUDMA Journal of Sciences
In the effort to clean up the environment and transform plastic waste into valuable resources, the mechanical and thermal properties of a composite made from High- Density Polyethylene (HDPE) and Coconut Coir Fiber (CCF) were examined to determine the ...

Fabrication and Characterization of Coir Fibre Reinforced CaCl2 Crosslinked Starch-Chitosan Films

2025 International Conference on Cognitive Computing in Engineering, Communications, Sciences and Biomedical Health Informatics (IC3ECSBHI)
In this research work, calcium chloride crosslinked starch-chitosan blended films are reinforced with coir fibres. Such films are prepared for food packaging purposes, but the prepared films are highly hygroscopic, soluble and brittle in nature ...

Alkali-treated coir fibre-pith composite for waste water treatment

Journal of Industrial Textiles, 2021
Coir fibre and pith are eco-friendly material used in the preparation of composites. Coir fibre and coir pith were treated with sodium hydroxide to study the effect of alkali for prolonged exposure on its properties.

Effect of banana skin powder and coir fibre on properties and flexural behaviour of precast SCC beam

, 2021
This paper addresses the potential alternative green construction technology utilising agricultural waste. Research on precast self-compacting concrete beam (PSCC-B) incorporating banana skin power (BSP) as cement replacement, and coir fibre (CF) as ...

Studies on cement-bonded coir fibre boards

Cement and Concrete Composites, 1992
Abstract This paper presents a study on the use of coir fibre for the production of cement-bonded building boards. The investigation includes the optimization of parameters such as fibre content, fibre length, casting pressure and demoulding time for the production of coir fibre-cement boards and the method of their production.

USE OF COIR FIBRE-REINFORCED NATURAL RUBBER COMPOSITES FOR ROOFING INSULATION: A REVIEW

Proceedings of the 3rd International Research Conference of ITUM 2024
In a building, most energy is consumed for the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) process. In this process, the thermal comfort in the building is maintained in a way that is comfortable for the people inside the building.

Coconut Fibre (Coir) Composites: A Review

This article presents the versatility of coconut fibre and its technological application. One of the abundant natural fibres available in Nigeria, coir is derived from the shell of the coconut fruit. Growing concerns about global warming, forest depletion and oil reserves have prompted researchers to pay more attention to the use of natural fibre (coir)

Mechanical behaviour of coir fibres under tensile load

Journal of Materials Science, 1981
Stress-strain curves of coir fibres have been determined. Mechanical properties including initial modulus, strength and percentage elongation of coir fibres have been evaluated as functions of retting treatment (during retting the coconut husks are soaked in saline water for a period of about six months to facilitate the extraction of fibres presumably
