Revealing the Janus Character of the Coke Precursor in the Propane Direct Dehydrogenation on Pt Catalysts from a kMC Simulation

, 2018
As the commercial catalyst in the propane direct dehydrogenation (PDH) reaction, one of the biggest challenges of Pt catalysts is coke formation, which severely reduces activity and stability.

Coke quality on adding coking byproducts to the batch

Coke and Chemistry, 2011
The addition of coking byproducts improves the properties of the coal batch and the coke produced. Adding acidic tar from the sulfate department to the coal batch affects the pyrolysis of the coal’s organic mass, while the ratio of size classes in the coke may be regulated by adjusting the quantity of the additives.

Investigating the Coke Formation Mechanism of H-ZSM-5 during Methanol Dehydration Using Operando UV–Raman Spectroscopy

ACS Catalysis, 2018
Methanol dehydration on solid acid catalysts is a fundamental step in many industrial chemical processes, such as methanol to dimethyl ether (MTD) and methanol to olefin (MTO).

Coke-resistant defect-confined Ni-based nanosheet-like catalysts derived from halloysites for CO2 reforming of methane.

Nanoscale, 2018
In this study, halloysites, one of the most abundant clays, with hollow nanotube features were reconstructed by selectively etching silica from the outermost layer of the halloysites associated with unzipping the nanotubes to nanosheets via ball milling,

The Significance of Coke Resistance in Coke Drum Failures [PDF]

open access: possibleVolume 3A: Design and Analysis, 2017
Shell bulging and cracking in coke drums have been documented for decades. Most of the literature on the subject attributes these failures to severe spatial and temporal thermal gradients that develop during the quench part of the operating cycle.

Gasification Reactivity and Structure Evolution of Metallurgical Coke under H2O/CO2 Atmosphere

, 2018
The metallurgical properties and the microstructure of coke after gasification reaction with pure H2O and pure CO2 were investigated in this study. Moreover, the first principles calculation was conducted to study the reaction process of the carbon with ...

Coke Yield Prediction Model for Pyrolysis and Oxidation Processes of Low-Asphaltene Heavy Oil

Energy & Fuels, 2019
Accurate prediction of coke yield is the basis for simulation and operation of the in situ combustion process. In view of the low asphaltene content of heavy oil in China, this study established coke yield prediction models for the pyrolysis and ...

Coke or Diet Coke? (Conference Presentation)

Optical Diagnostics and Sensing XIX: Toward Point-of-Care Diagnostics, 2019
Raman spectroscopy is a powerful tool in biomedical imaging and sensing; however, despite all its undisputed advantages, its intrinsic sensitivity is relatively low, and its specificity is rather limited due to overlapping vibrational bands. Fluorescence background often masks the useful signal, and dark rooms are normally required to avoid an ...

Coke and health

2020
The discussion is framed from a Western perspective, using three examples TaB, Diet Coke, and Coke Zero to contextualise Coca-Cola's response to public health concerns that have beleaguered the beverage industry, specifically rising rates of obesity and reported links between artificial sweeteners and cancer.

In Situ Generation of Radical Coke and the Role of Coke-Catalyst Contact on Coke Oxidation

Industrial & Engineering Chemistry Research, 2016
A thermogravimetric analyzer (TGA) equipped for flowing hydrocarbon gases allowed in situ deposition of coke on catalyst and support samples with excellent coke-catalyst contact. The coke deposition on the catalysts and supports, which occurs via a gas phase radical mechanism, depends on the reaction time, temperature, hydrocarbon concentration, and ...
