Selective H+ Exchange for External Surface of Zeolites to Elucidate the Role of External Acid Sites of Zeolite in Polyolefin Cracking

open access: yesChemistry–Methods, Volume 6, Issue 1, January 2026.
A novel ZSM‐5 catalyst with Brønsted acid sites exclusively on the external surface is synthesized to investigate the influence of acid site location on polymer cracking. Despite low acid site density, effective low‐density polyethylene and high‐density polyethylene degradation occurred via external protonation and β‐scission, revealing a structure ...

Catalytic Pyrolysis of Sinapic Acid on Nanoceria: Surface Complexes, Valorization of Products, Experimental, and Atomistic Approaches

open access: yesChemSusChem, Volume 19, Issue 1, January 2026.
Sinapic acid interacts with nanoceria through its carboxyl and aromatic groups, forming parallel and perpendicular surface complexes whose orientation depends on acid concentration and governs the kinetics and activation energy of forming valuable pyrolysis products—canolol, phenols, and other platform aromatics.

Steam Reforming of Ethanol to Acetaldehyde and Acetone Over Al‐Doped ZnO Catalysts

open access: yesChemSusChem, Volume 19, Issue 1, January 2026.
The steam reforming of ethanol over ZnO was found to consist of the dehydrogenation to acetaldehyde followed by its conversion to acetic acid forming acetone, CO2 and H2 via decarboxylative ketonization. The selectivity to acetaldehyde of this structure‐sensitive consecutive reaction network was enhanced by Al doping of ZnO, which modified the acid ...

Recent Advances in Catalytic Conversion of Bioethanol to 1,3‐Butadiene: Reaction Mechanism, Catalyst Design, and Process Scalability

open access: yesChemSusChem, Volume 19, Issue 1, January 2026.
Catalytic conversion of ethanol to 1,3‐butadiene (BD) can proceed via one‐step and two‐step routes. In the one‐step process, pure and metal‐modified MgO–SiO2 catalysts enable direct ethanol transformation to BD, while ZrO2‐based catalysts drive the two‐step pathway.
