Cross‐ploidy hybridisation in Alpine woodrushes is associated with ecological additivity and scale‐dependent niche divergence

open access: yesNew Phytologist, Volume 251, Issue 6, Page 3669-3686, September 2026.
Genetic differentiation among the study species. Summary Hybridisation and whole‐genome duplication (WGD) are widespread in plants, yet their ecological consequences remain challenging to predict. In allopolyploids, where both processes coincide, ecological divergence is typically evaluated against a null hypothesis of ecological additivity.

Towards Oblique Engagements With ‘Tipping Points’: A Critical Geography for Redirecting Debates

open access: yesTransactions of the Institute of British Geographers, Volume 51, Issue 3, September 2026.
ABSTRACT This intervention brings debates about tipping points into conversation with critical geographical thinking to suggest a more ‘oblique’ engagement with the concept. Such an approach is vital for rethinking the normative discourses and established imaginaries that dominate in the application of ‘tipping’ to understandings of environmental ...

Energy Efficient Routes to Renewable Terephthalic Acid: Pathways Toward Sustainable Polyethylene Terephthalate, PET

open access: yesAdvanced Sustainable Systems, Volume 10, Issue 8, August 2026.
The graphical abstract illustrates how biomass‐derived feedstocks progress through multiple chemical pathways to produce PET precursors, terephthalic acid (TA) highlighting various thermochemical and catalytic routes. The figure visually links distinct conversion strategies to various PET end‐use applications, while the review provides a comprehensive ...

An Embodied Paper‐Based Microfluidic Al‐Air Battery for Enduring Untethered Insect‐Scale Robots

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 45, 13 August 2026.
This work presents a centimeter‐scale microfluidic aluminum–air battery (MFAAB) with dual‐surface anode and F−‐mediated byproduct decomposition. The design enables a high capacity of 2697.05 mAh/g Al and delivers tens of milliwatts to power LEDs, motors, and a toy car.
