Recent Developments in the Design and Control of Cold Forming Processes

1999
In the paper some problems of process design and control in metal forming are taken into account. In particular as far as the former aspect is concerned, the problem of the preform design in cold forging is analyzed: the contributions offered by several researchers are presented and an innovative design procedure is proposed.

A New Testing Method for the Determination of Ductile Fracture in Cold Forming Processes

CIRP Annals, 1983
The primary objective of this study is to show that ductile fracture mechanism in cold forming is highly dependent on the state of stress resulting from the process. So, it is convenient to use identification testing procedure and well defined method for determining equivalent strain at fracture.

Spring-back analysis in the cold-forming process of ship hull plates

The International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology, 2018
Hull structures and offshore structures are composed of curved thick plates. Line heating method has traditionally been used to produce such curved plates. However, it is recognized that the hot-forming process causes a variety of issues on doubly or multiple curved plates.

Zweistufiges Kaltumformungsverfahren für Zahnräder/Two-stage cold forming process for gear wheels

wt Werkstattstechnik online, 2022

A mesoscopic approach of ductile damage during cold forming processes

1997
Publisher Summary The mesoscopic model avoids restrictive assumptions usually used in analytical models and appears to give a good account of ductile damage phenomena (nucleation, growth, and coalescence) for all kinds of loading conditions. It represents a very efficient tool for validating analytical models, for understanding the mechanisms and the

Knowledge Base Controller for Cold Forming Mills in Iron and Steel Production Process

IFAC Proceedings Volumes, 1992
Abstract Cold forming mills in the steel production process comprises of two cascaded DC motor stands and a flying shear to cut steel coils in accurate lengths. The main objective of the control scheme is to maintain the speed difference between the two stands within a specified limit in order to prevent producing inaccurate lengths.

Cold Forming Aluminium Alloys — Development of a Control System for a Phosphate Lubrication Process

CIRP Annals, 1982
Summary The zinc phosphate-sodium stearate method of lubrication is used extensively for the cold forming of steel. The control of the chemical composition of the solution used in this process is relatively simple and poses few problems for industry. However, a similar lubrication process which is often used when the higher strength aluminium alloys ...

The Development of a Cold Forming Process on an Automatic High-Speed Forming Machine

1975
The design and initial development of an automatic high-speed forming machine was presented in an earlier paper1. In the present paper further development of this machine, including the tooling and instrumentation for use in the cold can-extrusion of steel, is described.

Development and Deployment of Involute Splines Cold Forming Process for Gear Manufacturing [PDF]

open access: possible, 2019
A dynamic simulation model for cold forming of involute splines through a rolling process is presented. The model identifies a unique rolling methodology which consists of various phenomenon to illustrate the forming process in detail. Mass produced involute splines on four loose gears in a six speed manual transmission are developed from forgings to ...

Strengthening Mechanisms of 1H18N9T Austenitic Steel Buildups Created with Cold Forming Processes

Advanced Materials Research, 2007
In metal forming processes in the tool-workpiece contact area occur high pressure, surface expansion and elevated temperature. It makes ideal circumstances for braking of the lubricant film that causes a direct contact between metallic surfaces. Such a contact usually leads to buildups creation on the tool surface. These phenomena mainly result product
