Atom nanolithography with cold cesium atoms

2003 European Quantum Electronics Conference. EQEC 2003 (IEEE Cat No.03TH8665), 2003
The experimental set-up exploits a pyramidal funnel, made of two prisms and two mirrors arranged in the shape of an inverted pyramid with a small hole (1 mm /spl times/ 2 mm) at its apex, mounted on a stainless-steel holder inside an ultra high vacuum system.

Cold atoms and quantum control

Nature, 2002
This overview prefaces a collection of Insight review articles on the physics and applications of laser-cooled atoms. I will cast this work into a historical perspective in which laser cooling and trapping is seen as one of several research directions aimed at controlling the internal and external degrees of freedom of atoms and molecules.

COLD ATOMS AND MULTIPLE SCATTERING

1999
Laser cooling of atoms has developed rapidly since 1985. Milestones of this development have been the first realization of molasses of atoms[1], the first magneto-optical trap [2], the sub-Doppler [3] and sub-recoil [4] cooling techniques and more recently the observation of Bose-Einstein condensation of dilute atomic gases [5] [6].
