Characterization of water deficit tolerance of Poncirus trifoliata genotypes related to diversity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Rootstock provides better adaptation to biotic and abiotic constraints. Poncirus and its hybrids are widely used since they are tolerant to Citrus Tristeza Virus.

Numerical Exploration of Thermal Shock Resistance in MgO–C Refractories

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A mesostructure‐resolved numerical framework is developed to evaluate the thermal shock resistance of MgO–C refractories. By modeling interface debonding under rapid temperature changes and introducing a modified thermal shock parameter that accounts for mesocracks, the study shows how graphite content and aggregate size influence thermal shock ...

Lily Perennializing in Ithaca, Louisiana and Holland [PDF]

open access: yes
In May 2006, we published a newsletter (number 10) where we first reported on our experiences with multi-year flowering of a variety of “cut flower” hybrid lilies at Cornell’s outdoor trialing site, Bluegrass Lane, in Ithaca NY.

ENHANCED WINTER HARDINESS IN COMMON VETCH (VICIA SATIVA L.) FOR AUTUMN-SOWING IN THE CENTRAL HIGHLANDS OF TURKEY [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
In central Turkey, common vetch is planted in spring, but frequent droughts cause crop failures. Autumn-sown vetch has more yield potential; but then winter killing is a major problem.

Workflow for Design of Experiments‐Based Modeling of Species Transport and Growth Kinetics in GaN Hydride Vapor Phase Epitaxy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A novel workflow for investigating hydride vapor phase epitaxy for GaN bulk crystal growth is proposed. It combines Design of experiments (DoE) with physical simulations of mass transport and crystal growth kinetics, serving as an intermediate step between DoE and experiments.

Scouting for alfalfa winter injury [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
Mid- to late-March is the time producers should be inspecting alfalfa (and other perennial forage grasses and legumes) for spring recovery. The atypical weather this past fall and winter has led to considerable uncertainty about forage crop survival ...

MEASURES OF INSECT COLD HARDINESS

open access: yesThe Biological Bulletin, 1927
1. Cold hardiness to the intensity factor of low temperature can be measured by moisture content, undercooling point, and blood conductivity.2. Up to the time when a given insect can survive freezing, undercooling is a reliable measure of cold hardiness. Beyond the point when an insect can survive freezing, undercooling measures but a part of the total

Enhanced Strength and Corrosion Resistance of Ti‐13Nb‐12Ta‐10Zr‐4Sn Alloy by Aging Treatment

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This work systematically investigates the effect of aging treatment on mechanical properties and corrosion behavior of vacuum arc‐melted Ti‐13Nb‐12Ta‐10Zr‐4Sn alloy. Owing to the increased α″ martensite, strength and corrosion resistance were significantly enhanced by aging treatment.

Direct Metal Deposition of Graphene–Ti28Nb35.4Zr Matrix Composites With Enhanced Mechanical, Corrosion, and Biocompatibility Properties for Bone Implants

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Graphene nanoplatelet (0.1 wt.%) reinforcement significantly enhances the performance of β Ti‐28Nb‐35.4Zr alloy. Grain refinement, reduced water contact angle, and improved surface characteristics promote osteoblast adhesion and complete surface coverage after 7 days.
