IKD Current in Cold Transduction and Damage-Triggered Cold Hypersensitivity

Advances in Experimental Medicine and Biology, 2017
In primary sensory neurons of the spinal and trigeminal somatosensory system, cold-sensitivity is strongly dependent on the functional balance between TRPM8 channels, the main molecular entity responsible for the cold-activated excitatory current, and Shaker-like Kv1.1-1.2 potassium channels, the molecular counterpart underlying the excitability brake ...

Cold Erythema

JAMA, 1962
A 5-year-old boy reacted from infancy to cold stimuli with severe local pain, widespread erythema, and occasionally muscle spasm and collapse. In early life intractable constipation was also a feature. Physical examination and routine laboratory studies were normal as were specialized studies on serum and urine.

Cold Hypersensitivity after Sympathectomy for Raynaud's Disease

Scandinavian Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, 1980
Two patients with socially handicapping Raynaud's disease underwent bilateral upper thoracic sympathectomy. One to two days after the operation, both developed local hypersensitivity to cold in the form of a rebound. The cold hypersensitivity persisted in one of the patients, although complete degeneration of vasoconstrictor fibres was proven by ...

Cold hypersensitivity after hand injuries. A prospective 7-year follow-up

Journal of Plastic Surgery and Hand Surgery, 2018
We studied changes in cold hypersensitivity from 3 to 7 years following severe hand injuries. Data was collected using postal questionnaires 7 years after injury in 71 patients who had participated in a 3-year follow-up from the time of injury. There was

Induced Hypersensitivity to Cold

Science, 1965
Extreme hypersensitivity to cold can be induced in the rat by a single subcutaneous injection of carrageenin. In animals so treated, exposure to cold induces necrotizing thrombohemorrhagic lesions in the nose, paws, and tail, accompanied by renal lesions resembling those of the generalized Sanarelli-Shwartzman phenomenon.

HYPERSENSITIVENESS TO COLD

Journal of the American Medical Association, 1936
Danger lurks at the bathing beach for those who are hypersensitive to cold, but the danger can be eliminated by adequate desensitization. We do not pretend that, scientifically, this is the most interesting implication of the present report; we do believe that now, with summer almost at hand, it is the most immediately applicable feature of our work ...

Dentin hypersensitivity monitored by cold air quantitative sensory testing

Journal of Oral Rehabilitation, 2019
SummaryBackgroundQuantification of dentin hypersensitivity (DH) is challenging and requires standardised, graded stimulation by natural‐like stimuli.ObjectiveThe present study aimed at identifying DH subjects and longitudinally monitoring their pain thresholds by cold air quantitative sensory testing (QST).MethodsSubject recruitment started with an ...

Cold Hypersensitivity and Finger Systolic Blood Pressure in Hemodialysis Patients

Scandinavian Journal of Urology and Nephrology, 1981
In patients on maintenance hemodialysis the blood pressure in the fingers of the arm with arteriovenous fistula was significantly lower than in the fingers of the other arm. This is explained by the increased arterial blood flow to the arm with the fistula, giving physiological pressure reduction.

Skin lesions from hypersensitivity to cold during chronic myelomonocytic leukaemia

British Journal of Dermatology, 1986
A patient with chilblain lupus and chronic myelomonocytic leukaemia (CMML) is reported. The possible mechanisms of this association which appears specific to CMML are briefly discussed.
