Deuterated Clathrate Hydrates as a Novel Moderator Material for Very Cold Neutrons. Project Aperçu and First Results [PDF]

open access: diamondEPJ Web of Conferences, 2023
Clathrate hydrates are water-based solids with large crystallographic unit cells that show promise as potential moderators for use in new, more intense sources of very cold neutrons (VCN), which would enhance neutron scattering techniques and increase ...

In-Pile 4He Source for UCN Production at the ESS [PDF]

open access: yesAdvances in High Energy Physics, 2014
ESS will be a premier neutron source facility. Unprecedented neutron beam intensities are ensured by spallation reactions of a 5 MW, 2.0 GeV proton beam impinging on a tungsten target equipped with advanced moderators.

Optimization of moderators and beam extraction at the ESS [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Applied Crystallography, 2018
A global approach coupling the moderator to the beam extraction system has been applied for the design optimization of the thermal and cold moderators of the European Spallation Source (ESS), which will be the brightest neutron source in the world for ...

Impact of apparent temperature on specific cardiovascular disease admissions: a time-series study and association modification in Xiangyang, China [PDF]

open access: yesBMC Public Health
Background The effects of temperature variations on different types of cardiovascular disease (CVD) and the moderating roles of sociodemographic factors such as age, gender, and residential area remain poorly understood. Method Using a retrospective time-

A Concept of a Para-Hydrogen-Based Cold Neutron Source for Simultaneous High Flux and High Brightness

open access: yesJournal of Nuclear Engineering
A novel concept of cold neutron source employing chessboard or staircase assemblies of high-aspect-ratio rectangular para-hydrogen moderators with well-developed and practically fully illuminated surfaces of the individual moderators is proposed.

Solid Methane Cold Moderator for the IBR-2 Reactor

open access: greenJournal of Neutron Research, 1996
This paper covers test runs made with the cold moderator prototype at the IBR-2 reactor running at 2 MW. The cold neutron intensity gain is shown to be 14–25 as predicted. Periodic annealing of the cold moderator, carried out to relieve radiolytically derived hydrogen, created a significant improvement in cold neutron intensity.
