Physiological characteristics and transcriptomic analyses of alfalfa root crown in wintering

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science
BackgroundAlfalfa, scientifically identified as Medicago sativa, is repeatedly referred to as the “king of forages”. Because of its tight relationship to winter hardiness, the alfalfa’s root crown plays a significant role as a storage organ over the ...

A numerical study on the design trade-offs of a thin-film thermoelectric generator for large-area applications

open access: yes, 2018
Thin-film thermoelectric generators with a novel folding scheme are proposed for large-area, low energy-density applications. Both the electrical current and heat transfer are in the plane of the thermoelectric thin-film, yet the heat transfer is across ...

Self‐Immolative Activatable Nanoassembly toward Immuno‐Photodynamic Therapy in TME

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A quinone methide‐gated, self‐immolative, H2O2‐responsive nano‐photosensitizer (Pyz/PS) is developed for targeted immuno‐photodynamic therapy. Pyz/PS selectively activates within tumor microenvironments, restores photosensitizer activity, generates ROS, and depletes intracellular GSH, enhancing oxidative stress.

Beating the cold: The role of OsTTG1 in developing cold-resistant rice

open access: yesPlant Physiology
In the face of unpredictable climate patterns, crop growth and yield are becoming increasingly vulnerable, with rice—a staple food crop—being no exception. While much attention has been paid to heat stress and its impact on crops, the effects of cold stress on rice remain underexplored.

Exploring plant tolerance to biotic and abiotic stresses [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Plants are exposed to many stress factors, such as drought, high salinity or pathogens, which reduce the yield of the cultivated plants or affect the quality of the harvested products. Arabidopsis thaliana was used as a model plant to study the responses

Functional Materials for Environmental Energy Harvesting in Smart Agriculture via Triboelectric Nanogenerators

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This review explores functional and responsive materials for triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs) in sustainable smart agriculture. It examines how particulate contamination and dirt affect charge transfer and efficiency. Environmental challenges and strategies to enhance durability and responsiveness are outlined, including active functional layers ...

How Does Silo Storage Time Affect Pavement Durability in Cold Weather Climates? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
One of the most significant problems in asphalt pavements in cold weather climates like New England is thermal cracking. Thermal cracks allow water to penetrate into a pavement, significantly weakening the entire structure which necessitates expensive ...

Immunologic tumor microenvironment modulators for turning cold tumors hot

open access: yesCancer Communications
Tumors can be classified into distinct immunophenotypes based on the presence and arrangement of cytotoxic immune cells within the tumor microenvironment (TME).
