A numerical approach to robust in-line control of roll forming processes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The quality of roll formed products is known to be highly sensitive and dependent on the process parameters and thus the unavoidable variations of these parameters during mass production.

S-Isomap++: Multi Manifold Learning from Streaming Data

open access: yes, 2017
Manifold learning based methods have been widely used for non-linear dimensionality reduction (NLDR). However, in many practical settings, the need to process streaming data is a challenge for such methods, owing to the high computational complexity ...

Navigating the Ethereal Tightrope: The Nanogenerator Manipulates Neurons for Immune Equilibrium

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This review explores how nanogenerators modulate neuroimmune responses, offering innovative strategies for treating neurological disorders. By interfacing with neural pathways, they enable precise control of immune activity, especially via vagus nerve stimulation.

Microglial Fkbp5 Impairs Post‐Stroke Vascular Integrity and Regeneration by Promoting Yap1‐Mediated Glycolysis and Oxidative Phosphorylation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A post‐stroke perivascular niche of microglia characterized by low expression of M2 markers and elevated glycolysis, oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS), and phagocytic activity is identified, which is termed stroke‐activated vascular‐associated microglia (stroke‐VAM).

Production of high stellar-mass primordial black holes in trapped inflation

open access: yes, 2017
Trapped inflation has been proposed to provide a successful inflation with a steep potential. We discuss the formation of primordial black holes in the trapped inflationary scenario.

IGF‐1 Deficiency Serves as an Integrated Biomarker Pathogenic Driver and Predictor in Poor Ovarian Response

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
IGF‐1 deficiency underlies poor ovarian response (POR), as reduced levels in follicular fluid and granulosa cells impair antral follicle formation and compromise reproductive outcomes. Including IGF‐1 as a biomarker significantly enhances the accuracy of models predicting both PORrisk and pregnancy success.

Mechanical Behavior and Failure Analysis of Prosthetic Retaining Screws after Long‐Term Use In Vivo. Part 2: Metallurgical and Microhardness Analysis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Purpose: This study involved testing and analyzing multiple retrieved prosthetic retaining screws after long‐term use in vivo to: (1) detect manufacturing defects that could affect in‐service behavior; (2) characterize the microstructure and alloy ...

Primordial Black Holes: sirens of the early Universe

open access: yes, 2014
Primordial Black Holes (PBHs) are, typically light, black holes which can form in the early Universe. There are a number of formation mechanisms, including the collapse of large density perturbations, cosmic string loops and bubble collisions. The number

NuSAP Safeguards Centriole Integrity to Mediate CEP57‐CEP152 Torus Recruitment for Proper Engagement

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study reveals a novel role for the microtubule stabilizer NuSAP at centrioles. NuSAP depletion destabilizes the centriole's tubulin structure, causing premature disengagement, PCM defects, and mis‐localization of the CEP57‐CEP63‐CEP152 complex. By reinforcing centriole architecture, NuSAP enables early CEP57 loading and initiates a newly proposed ...

A Tangentially Sensitive Tactile Sensor Reveals the Stick‐Slip Mechanism and Enhances Robotic Tactile Sensing

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
An ultralight, multilayer anisotropic tactile sensor—an artificial Pacinian corpuscle—exhibits ultrahigh tangential sensitivity (1022 kPa−1) and spatiotemporal sensing. It discriminates static, sliding, and rolling contacts, detects incipient stick–slip via high‑frequency signatures, and enhances robotic touch (100%/98.18% accuracy for active/passive ...
