An Integrated Approach to Recognizing Fossil Cold Seeps: Methodology and Application [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
Methane has become an attractive answer for the anomalous and has recently been used to explain numerous carbonates, especially mud mounds, in the rock record.

Biotechnological aspects of sulfate reduction with methane as electron donor [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Biological sulfate reduction can be used for the removal and recovery of oxidized sulfur compounds and metals from waste streams. However, the costs of conventional electron donors, like hydrogen and ethanol, limit the application possibilities.

The Risk of Colonoscopy‐related Bleeding in Patients With or Without Continued Treatment With an Antithrombotic Agent

open access: yesDEN Open, Volume 6, Issue 1, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Objectives We prospectively investigated the risk of colonoscopy‐related bleeding in relation to antithrombotic treatment. Methods This prospective, observational, single‐center cohort study (NCT02594813) enrolled consecutive patients who underwent colonoscopy, including the removal of colorectal polyps, regardless of the continuation of ...

Ecological succession of a Jurassic shallow-water ichthyosaur fall. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
After the discovery of whale fall communities in modern oceans, it has been hypothesized that during the Mesozoic the carcasses of marine reptiles created similar habitats supporting long-lived and specialized animal communities.

Safety Profile of Low‐Power Pure‐Cut Hot Snare Polypectomy for 10–14 mm Nonpedunculated Colorectal Neoplasms

open access: yesDEN Open, Volume 6, Issue 1, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Objectives The reported rate of delayed bleeding (DB) after hot snare polypectomy (HSP) for 10–19‐mm polyps is 2.1%–2.8%, which is non‐negligible. We hypothesized that a low‐power pure‐cut current (LPPC) yields a lower risk of DB than a coagulation current, and we evaluated the safety of LPPC HSP for colorectal polyps.

Lignin Unlocks Stealth Carbon Sinks in Cold Seeps via Microbial Enzymatic Gatekeeping

open access: yesResearch
Cold seep ecosystems serve as critical hubs in marine carbon cycling through methane emissions and organic matter processing. While terrestrial lignin constitutes a major fraction of persistent organic carbon in cold seep sediments, its microbial ...

Intractable Delayed Bleeding After Endoscopic Submucosal Dissection for Early Gastric Cancer in Patients With Chronic Disseminated Intravascular Coagulation Caused by Aortic Aneurysm

open access: yesDEN Open, Volume 6, Issue 1, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Chronic disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) is a rare complication of an aortic aneurysm (AA), and it may go unnoticed because patients are often asymptomatic. The condition is sometimes first recognized when trauma or an invasive procedure triggers a sudden and severe difficulty in achieving hemostasis.

Deep sea cold seeps are a sink for mercury and source for methylmercury

open access: yesCommunications Earth & Environment
The effect of seafloor cold seeps on the biogeochemical cycling of mercury (Hg) remains enigmatic. Here we demonstrate substantial enrichments of mercury and methylmercury, along with the presence of microbes capable of metabolizing mercury in sediments ...

Lithium isotope geochemistry of marine pore waters: Insights from cold seep fluids [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Lithium concentration and isotope data (δ7Li) are reported for pore fluids from 18 cold seep locations together with reference fluids from shallow marine environments, a sediment-hosted hydrothermal system and two Mediterranean brine basins.
