Note on paramoudra-like carbonate concretions in the Urenui Formation, North Taranaki: possible plumbing system for a Late Miocene methane seep field [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
A reconnaissance study of calcitic and dolomitic tubular concretions in upper slope mudstone of the Late Miocene Urenui Formation exposed along the north Taranaki coastline indicates that they have a complex diagenetic history involving different phases ...

Planktonic and sediment-associated aerobic methanotrophs in two seep systems along the North American margin [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Methane vents are of significant geochemical and ecological importance. Notable progress has been made towards understanding anaerobic methane oxidation in marine sediments, however, the diversity and distribution of aerobic methanotrophs in the water ...

Characterization of Two Unique Cold-Active Lipases Derived from a Novel Deep-Sea Cold Seep Bacterium

open access: yesMicroorganisms, 2021
The deep ocean microbiota has unexplored potential to provide enzymes with unique characteristics. In order to obtain cold-active lipases, bacterial strains isolated from the sediment of the deep-sea cold seep were screened, and a novel strain gcc21 ...

Endoscopic Suture Ligation and Sclerotherapy for Pharyngolaryngeal Venous Malformation

open access: yesThe Laryngoscope, EarlyView.
This study evaluated suture ligation combined with sclerotherapy in 53 patients with pharyngolaryngeal venous malformations. A single procedure achieved complete resolution in 79.25% of cases, with no serious complications or need for prophylactic tracheostomy.

MICROORGANISMS OF MARINE COLD HYDROCARBON SEEPS

open access: yesMicrobiology&Biotechnology
Marine hydrocarbon seeps, due to their unique geophysical and geochemical characteristics, form unique conditions for the development of specific microbial communities. Diverse and interconnected metabolic activities of them underlie global ecological processes. In this review were considered the geophysical and chemical conditions for the formation of

Implications of heterogeneous embankment conditions for geoelectrical investigations on dams: A case study at Mactaquac Dam, Canada

open access: yesNear Surface Geophysics, EarlyView.
Abstract Electrical resistivity tomography (ERT) has been shown to be effective for surveying and monitoring dams, due to the method's sensitivity to moisture content and relevant physical properties (e.g., porosity). Automated ERT systems, capable of time‐lapse monitoring, can be used to detect variations in ground conditions.

Novel Methanotrophs of the Family Methylococcaceae from Different Geographical Regions and Habitats [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Terrestrial methane seeps and rice paddy fields are important ecosystems in the methane cycle. Methanotrophic bacteria in these ecosystems play a key role in reducing methane emission into the atmosphere.
