In this chapter, the physics involved in cold spray is presented in order to get an understanding of the fundamentals that govern this complex spray process. After an overview of the process basics, the process parameters that influence the process outcome, namely the coating quality through the particle impact velocity, are introduced as well as an ...

Surface Engineering, 2006
Developments for different thermal processes or cold spraying commonly aim to minimise coating defects as porosity, disturbing oxides or undesired phase transformations as side effects. Whatever spray process is considered, a certain amount of energy is requested for building up coatings. Comparing thermal spray techniques in Fig.

On Fatigue Behavior of Cold Spray Coating
MRS Proceedings, 2014ABSTRACTCold spray is a novel and promising technology to obtain surface coating. Notwithstanding the several technological advantages with respect to other processes, its diffusion is somewhat limited because of the limited knowledge on the mechanical properties of the cold sprayed materials and in particular, the fatigue behavior.

Cold Spray Forming Inconel 718
International Thermal Spray Conference, 2012Abstract In this investigation, Inconel 718, a material known to cause nozzle clogging upon cold spraying, was cold spray formed to 6 mm-thick using the Plasma Giken cold spray system PCS- 1000. This was made possible due to the novel non-clogging nozzle material combined with a nozzle water cooling system.

Thermal and Cold Spray: Recent Developments
Key Engineering Materials, 2008Thermal spraying consists in a technology aiming at producing coatings whose thicknesses range from 10 μm to a few millimeters onto mechanical components to confer them specific and unique functional properties, such as wear and corrosion resistances, friction coefficient adaptation, thermal and electrical insulation, biocompatibility, repair, etc ...

As an emerging technology, cold spray has proven to be useful for many applications, many of which are described in this book. While cold spray equipment designs and operating techniques are approaching optimal forms, the benefits and costs of its use for specific purposes must be quantified before it can be considered to be commercially viable.

Particle/substrate interaction during cold spray (CS) deposition and the resultant bonding are of great importance because they affect coating characteristics. Experimental studies and computational modeling have been performed to get a better understanding of the bonding mechanism during CS as well as its mechanical behavior under different loading ...

Abstract The distinguishing feature of the cold spray process, when compared with the conventional thermal spray process, is its ability to produce coatings with high-velocity rather than high-temperature particle jet. This article provides an overview of the cold spray process and the parameters that affect both the process deposition ...
