Dormancy of safflower seeds: effect of storage and cold stratification [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Seed Science, 2017
Abstract: Safflower seeds exhibit dormancy soon after dispersion from the mother plant, making it impossible to sow newly harvested seeds. Thus, the aim of the present study was to evaluate breaking the dormancy of safflower seeds during storage associated with the use of different periods of cold stratification.

IMPACT OF ACID SCARIFICATION AND COLD MIST STRATIFICATION ON ENHANCING SEED GERMINATION AND SEEDLING EARLY GROWTH OF Albizia lebbeck (L.) Benth. [PDF]

open access: yesMesopotamia Journal of Agriculture, 2019
The thick, hard and water-impermeable seed coat cause physical dormancy and low germination rate in Albizia lebbeck (L.), to overcome this physical dormancy, seeds were pretreated with concentrated HCl and cold mist condition.

Cold stratification complements cold water in enhancing the germination of Juniperus procera seeds

open access: yesCurrent Botany, 2017

Enhancing seed germination is a fundamental step for conservation of plant genetic resources but less is understood specifically for endangered native and endemic tree species in the tropics.

We examined how cold stratification and application of different treatments impact the germination of Juniperus procera< ...

Cold stratification, but not stratification in salinity, enhances seedling growth of wheat under salt treatment

open access: yesAFRICAN JOURNAL OF BIOTECHNOLOGY, 2011
Cold stratification was reported to release seed dormancy and enhance plant tolerance to salt stress. Experiments were conducted to test the hypothesis that cold stratification and cold stratification in salinity could enhance seedling growth of wheat under salt treatment. The results clearly demonstrated that cold stratification significantly improved

Development of rootstocks grapevine and cold stratification time

open access: yesAustralian Journal of Crop Science, 2018
Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de São Paulo (FAPESP) ; Processo FAPESP: 2015/16440-5 ; With the growth of new areas of grapevine planting in Brazil and other tropical countries, the rootstocks play an important role in the implantation of new areas and adaptation of cultivars.

Putative Spatiotemporal Changes in Inhibitor Activity during Cold Stratification of Sapium sebiferum Seeds

open access: yesHorticulturae
Sapium sebiferum is a tree with socioeconomic, environmental, and medicinal value. S. sebiferum seeds possess physiological dormancy, which is induced by endogenous inhibitors and can be broken by cold stratification. However, the putative spatiotemporal

Qualitative changes in the proteins of cotyledons during cold and warm stratification of Acer platanoides seeds

open access: yesActa Societatis Botanicorum Poloniae, 2014
In Norway maple (Acer platanoides L.) seeds, during dormancy breakage there appeared some qualitative changes in protein composition of the cotyledons.

Comparing Non-Thermal Plasma and Cold Stratification: Which Pre-Sowing Treatment Benefits Wild Plant Emergence? [PDF]

open access: yesPlants (Basel), 2023
Meadow restoration and creation projects have faced a lack of local seed diversity due to the limited availability of seed sources. Non-thermal plasma technologies are being developed for agriculture and do not cause damage to heat-sensitive biological ...

Changes in oxidative patterns during dormancy break by warm and cold stratification in seeds of an edible fruit tree. [PDF]

open access: yesAoB Plants, 2016
The transition from seed dormancy to germination is triggered by environmental factors, and in pomegranate (Punica granatum) seeds higher germination percentages are achieved by warm + cold stratification rather than by cold stratification alone.

Influence of Some Physicochemical Treatments to Stimulate Seed Germination of Agrimonia eupatoria L. and Clinopodium vulgare L. [PDF]

open access: yesAgrotechniques in Industrial Crops, 2022
Dormancy is an inherent limitation on germination that happens across in the life cycle of a plant. The particular goals of this research were to survey the effects of various treatments for improving seed germination of Agrimonia eupatoria and ...
