Safety oriented analysis of cold helium–air mixture formation and stratification

Cryogenics, 2006
Abstract Cryogenic installations of superconducting accelerators contain significant amount of high density helium, mostly filling the cryostats and headers located in underground tunnels and caverns. In the case of emergency relief of the helium, oxygen deficiency hazard arises.

Reactive oxygen species induced by cold stratification promote germination of Hedysarum scoparium seeds

Plant Physiology and Biochemistry, 2016
Seed germination is comprehensively regulated by multiple intrinsic and extrinsic factors, and reactive oxygen species (ROS) are relatively new among these factors. However, the role and underlying mechanisms of ROS in germination regulation remain largely unknown. In this study, we initially found that cold stratification could promote germination and

Germination in Zostera japonica is determined by cold stratification, tidal elevation and sediment type

Aquatic Botany, 2011
Abstract The effects of water temperature and bottom sediment type were studied on seed dormancy and germination of Zostera japonica Ascherson & Graebner in mesocosm. To test whether the germination rate is affected by cold stratification, seeds were divided into two groups: those exposed to cold (7 °C) and those left untreated (23–15 °C ...

Cold stratification, light and high seed density enhance the germination of Ottelia alismoides

Aquatic Botany, 2009
The effects of cold stratification, light and seed clustering in petri dish on Ottelia alismoides seed germination were investigated. The seeds required light and an extended cold period in order to germinate, but neither treatment alone was effective. Seed germination significantly increased with length of the 4 8C cold stratification period.

Does cold stratification level out differences in seed germinability between populations?

Plant Ecology, 1998
Populations of seeds can vary greatly in their dormancy-breaking and germination characteristics. The purpose of this study was to determine if such dormancy differences are levelled out by cold stratification. Seeds of 33 annual weed species, each represented by three populations, were tested in light and darkness 7 weeks after harvest and after two ...

Bleaching and cold stratification can break dormancy and improve seed germination in Cyperaceae

Aquatic Botany, 2019
Abstract Seed germination of sedges is often difficult, due to physiological dormancy and the hard seed coat. It has been proposed that chemical scarification by sodium hypochlorite (‘bleach’) and cold stratification might successfully break this type of dormancy and improve seed germination rates.
