The influence of sour taste and cold temperature in pharyngeal transit duration in patients with stroke.

open access: yesArquivos de Gastroenterologia, 2010
CONTEXT The effect of sour taste and food temperature variations in dysphagic patients has not been entirely clarified. OBJECTIVE To determine the effect of sour and cold food in the pharyngeal transit times of patients with stroke.

Electrical pulse stimulation reflecting the episodic nature of real‐life exercise modulates metabolic and secretory profile of primary human myotubes

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Here, we introduced an intermittent electrical stimulation protocol mimicking the episodic nature of real‐life exercise in vitro by alternating low‐ and high‐frequency stimulation. In comparison with widely used continuous stimulation, it enhanced the rate of glucose and fatty acid oxidation, but not the myokine release.

Comparative study of the antioxidant capacity in green tea by extraction at different temperatures of four brands sold in Colombia

open access: yesVitae, 2017
Background: Tea (Camellia sinensis) is the most highly consumed beverage in the world in addition to water. The most common way of preparation is steeping it in hot or cold water.(1) In Colombia, this is a recent trend and the market is growing ...

Short‐term actions of epigalocatechin‐3‐gallate in the liver: a mechanistic insight into hypoglycemic and potential toxic effects

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Epigallocatechin‐3‐gallate (EGCG) acutely inhibited gluconeogenesis and enhanced glycolysis, glycogenolysis, and fatty acid oxidation in perfused rat livers. Mechanistic assays revealed mitochondrial uncoupling, inhibition of pyruvate carboxylation and glucose‐6‐phosphatase, shift of NADH/NAD+ ratios toward oxidation, and loss of membrane integrity ...

Overexpression of CDT1 inhibits cell cycle progression at S phase by interacting with the mini‐chromosome maintenance complex and causes DNA damage

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
CDT1 is an essential protein for DNA replication licensing that loads the MCM complex, the eukaryotic replicative DNA helicase, onto replication origins. Overexpression of CDT1 induces cell cycle arrest at the S phase. Here we showed CDT1 inhibits the progression of replication forks by interacting with the MCM complex, leading to the stalling and ...
