Bioaugmentation for nitrification at cold temperatures
Water Research, 2004Bioaugmentation of nitrifying bacteria for short solids retention time (short-SRT) nitrification is an attractive alternative for wastewater treatment plants in cold climates or for those in the process of upgrading to include nitrification. One possible source of ammonia for the production of nitrifying bacteria is the liquor generated during the ...

Temperature and the cold pressor test
The Journal of Pain, 2004As a method of experimental pain induction, the cold pressor test is thought to mimic the effects of chronic conditions effectively. A survey of previous studies using the cold pressor, however, revealed a lack of standardization and control of water temperature, questioning comparability and reliability. This study reports the influence of temperature

Archive for Rational Mechanics and Analysis, 1975
A rational thermodynamic theory has been developed by I. M(JLLER during the last four years [1, 2, 3]. It is not of the after effect type. Rather, it is restricted to constitutive equations which do not involve the histories of the independent variables but may involve these variables and their time derivatives up to some order, all taken at the ...

Dietary self-selection at cold temperatures
Physiology & Behavior, 1971Abstract Animals housed in the cold (2°C) were given the opportunity to select the components of their diets from protein and carbohydrae fractions. Housing in the cold was accompanied by depressed growth, which was not affected by giving the animals the opportunity to select their diets. Animals in the cold increased total caloric intake relative to

Nanostructured Temperature Indicator for Cold Chain Logistics
ACS Nano, 2022Food, chemicals, agricultural products, drugs, and vaccines should be transported and stored within an appropriate low-temperature range, following cold chain logistics. Violations of the required temperature regime are generally reported by time-temperature indicators; however, current sensors do not cover a sufficiently broad low-temperature range ...

Interface temperatures in cold rolling
Journal of Materials Shaping Technology, 1988A simplified model for heat transfer is cold rolling which considers only convection parallel to the roll-strip interface and conduction normal to this direction is developed. The interface temperatures predicted by the model show good agreement with experimental measurements by Jeswiet and Rice [10].

Cold Crack - Low Temperature Flexibility
Journal of Coated Fabrics, 1976A discussion of the factors which affect cold crack and low temperature flexibility - This article is concerned mainly with canvas products as defined by CPAI and will include coated fabrics used for tarpaulins but may, in some cases, overlap into other coated fabric areas.

Effect of Cold‐Temperature Shock on Nitrification
Water Environment Research, 2007Nitrification is known as the most temperature‐sensitive step among the biological processes in wastewater treatment. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of temperature on nitrification, in the case of a sharp decrease of temperature, and to compare this effect with that of a gradual temperature decrease.

Cold temperature health risks and human rights
2020This text introduces the reader to the problem of cold temperature exposure of refugees from the perspective of health risks as well as from the perspective of human rights. The arrival of large numbers of displaced persons in Northern Europe in 2015 and the
