Ecol EvolAraucanian herring (Strangomera bentincki) is a pelagic fish whose main processed products are fishmeal and oil. The complete mitogenome is 16,758 bp, consisting of 13 coding genes, two rRNAs, 22 tRNAs, and the control region. Phylogenetic analysis supported a monophyletic clade with Sprattus muelleri and Sprattus antipodum.
