RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN COLEOPTILE LENGTH AND CULM LENGTH IN BARLEY
Canadian Journal of Plant Science, 1980Coleoptile length and culm length in barley (Hordeum sativum Jess.) appeared to be strictly associated in a number of F6 lines derived from a two-way selection experiment for culm length. When the relationship between the two characters was studied in six cultivars and six F2 populations, the degree of association was variable depending upon the ...

Genetic analysis of coleoptile length and diameter in wheat
Australian Journal of Agricultural Research, 2004Lack of moisture near the soil surface commonly delays sowing, reducing grain yields of Australian wheat (Triticum aestivum) crops. Deep sowing would allow growers to make use of soil moisture lying below the drying topsoil, but the short coleoptiles of semidwarf wheats reduce emergence when sowing at depths greater than 5 cm.

Selection Response for Seedling Root Length and Coleoptile Length in Pearl Millet
Crop Science, 1995Pearl millet [Pennisetum glaucum (L.) R. Br.] production in semiarid areas is primarily limited by poor seedling emergence and poor stands, which result in low yields. The objectives of this study were to measure selection response for seedling root length and coleoptile length, and to compare the effectiveness of greenhouse and laboratory screening ...

Coleoptile Length of Dwarf Wheat Isolines
Crop Science, 2002The dwarfing alleles in wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) are associated with shorter coleoptile length that can produce unacceptable and erratic stands. The combined effect of temperature (2, 10, 18°C) and five gibberellic add (GA) concentrations [0, 5, 50, 100, 500 mg L -1 of potassium gibberellin A 3 (C 19 H 21 O 6 K)] in the germination medium on the ...

Temperature affects germination, mesocotyl length and coleoptile length of oats genotypes
Australian Journal of Agricultural Research, 1993Seedlings of 16 oats genotypes (Algerian, Amby, Bulban, Cluan, Culgoa, Echidna, MA5030, Minhafer, Moore, Mortlock, Panorama 5, Riel, Saia, Stout, West and 81Ab1063) were allowed to elongate in darkness at six constant temperatures (10, 15, 20, 25, 30 and 35 C) to determine the effect of temperature on final mesocotyl and coleoptile length. The optimum

Coleoptile length of barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) cultivars
Genetic Resources and Crop Evolution, 2009Coleoptile length is related to maximum seeding depth. The coleoptile length of 44 spring barley cultivars (Hordeum vulgare L.) was determined by laying seeds on moistened filter paper and incubating at 15°C for 13 days. Significant differences in coleoptile length were noted between cultivars (P < 0.05).

Temperature affects the mesocotyl and coleoptile length of grain sorghum genotypes
Australian Journal of Agricultural Research, 1990The effect of seven temperatures ranging from 15 to 45 C on the germination and seedling length (mesocotyl +coleoptile) of eight grain sorghum genotypes (QL10, QL27, B35, R9247, BTx2761, BKS4, RTx7078 and 1790E) was determined. There was significant variation in germination (25-100%) and seedling length (6-182 mm) across temperatures and among ...

Genotype-Environment Interactions in Wheat: Effects of Temperature on Coleoptile Length
Experimental Agriculture, 1976SUMMARYTemperature effects on coleoptile development were studied in 18 genotypes of spring and semi-winter wheats, illustrating a simple experimental approach for choosing genotypes and management practices that would minimize genotype–environment interactions for stand establishment.

Coleoptile length comparison of three winter small grain cereals adapted to the Great Plains
Cereal Research Communications, 2021Successful crop stand establishment is critical to realize high yield potential, which is dependent on depth of seed placement to access soil moisture. The coleoptile determines sowing depth by its length and ability to emerge from depth. This study was conducted to assess coleoptile length among three sets of three Great Plains winter small grain ...

Effect of cultivar and temperature on the coleoptile length and establishment of barley
Australian Journal of Experimental Agriculture, 1987Laboratory experiments were conducted to determine the effects of 7 cultivars and 8 constant temperatures on the coleoptile length of barley seedlings grown in darkness. A field experiment was used to determine correlations between laboratory measurements on seed (coleoptile length, germination and weight) and barley establishment after deep sowing ...
