The Antagonism of Coliform Bacteria Against Shigellae

The Journal of Immunology, 1948
Summary A total of 1,243 strains of coliform organisms, isolated by rectal culture from Latin-American children in South Texas, were tested for their antagonistic properties on solid medium against an arbitrarily chosen Shigella paradysenteriae Flexner type III (Z). Of these, 18.3 per cent possessed some antagonistic property.

FATE OF COLIFORM BACTERIA IN BUTTERMILK1

Journal of Milk and Food Technology, 1974
Coliform bacteria in buttermilk decreased on storage at 4 C and 87 C. Counts decreased at 20 C when the initial inoculum was low but increased when it was high. The change in the number of coliform bacteria was not correlated with either the total acid or acetic acid concentrations, or with their kinetics.

Salmonella Antigens of Coliform Bacteria

The Journal of Immunology, 1943
Summary Antigenic analysis of somatic antigens of selected coliform and para-colon cultures has shown: 1) Strains with the XI antigen S. rubislaw; 2) two antigenic components in “single factor” cultures S. hvittingfoss (XVI), S. cerro (XVIII), S. tel-aviv (XXVIII) and S.

Antibiotic resistant coliform and faecal coliform bacteria in drinking water

Water, Air, and Soil Pollution, 1988
Coliform and faccal coliform were isolated from drinking water samples obtained from tap water (TW) and storage tanks (ST) in Baghdad city. All isolates were identified and tested for their resistance to twelve antibiotics. Bacterial identification revealed that Ent. cloacae and Kl. pneumoniae were the predominant organisms from TW and ST water samples,

Total Coliform Bacteria

1977
Although the total coliform bacterial count has its shortcomings, it is our best indicator of the health hazards associated with drinking water that we have today. Some of these defects can be corrected by additional bacterial tests to determine interference or identify nonconliform lactose fermenting organisms.

Rapid Counting Methods for Coliform Bacteria

1981
Publisher Summary This chapter reviews the recent progress in the development of rapid coliform-counting procedures. Some of the criteria for an ideal rapid coliform-counting procedure includes specificity for fecal coliforms, test completion in less than an hour, results comparable to those achieved by the present standard methods, good ...

120. The Types Of Coliform Bacteria in Bovine Faeces

Journal of Dairy Research, 1935
1. In an examination of the coliform flora of 114 specimens of bovine faeces, 342 cultures of coliform bacteria were isolated by the ordinary methods.Of the cultures obtained, 330 (or 96·4 per cent.) were typicalBact. coliandonly twelve (or 3·5 per cent.) were ofBact. aerogenes, Bact. cloacaeand other Koser-positive types.
