Lactobacillus colini sp. nov., isolated from Northern Bobwhite (Colinus virginianus)

open access: yesInternational Journal of Systematic and Evolutionary Microbiology, 2017
Biochemical and molecular studies were performed on five unknown bacterial strains isolated from the intestinal contents of Northern Bobwhites (Colinus virginianus) collected from western Texas, USA. The strains were Gram-stain-positive, catalase-negative, non-spore-forming rods arranged in single cells, pairs or short chains.

Differences in foraging behavior in wild and pen‐raised northern bobwhites

open access: yesWildlife Society Bulletin, 2016
Increased mortality rates of northern bobwhites (Colinus virginianus) raised in captivity and stocked into the wild compared with wild bobwhites may be due to differences in antipredatory behaviors.

Response of northern bobwhites fed single doses of gossypol

open access: yesWildlife Society Bulletin, 2018
Cottonseed products have been used as a feed supplement for ruminant livestock and white‐tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus). Gossypol, a secondary plant metabolite found in cotton (Gossypium spp.), is known to be toxic to a variety of animals ...

Two centuries of human‐mediated gene flow in northern bobwhites

open access: yesWildlife Society Bulletin, 2017
The northern bobwhite (Colinus virginianus; hereafter, bobwhite) population decline has prompted several studies over the past decade investigating bobwhite population genetics and overall connectivity. The zeitgeist of current quail conservation is that
