Is there a role for vitamin C in preventing osteoporosis and fractures?:A review of the potential underlying mechanisms and current epidemiological evidence [PDF]
Osteoporosis and related fractures are a major global health issue, but there are few preventative strategies. Previously reported associations between higher intakes of fruits and vegetables and skeletal health have been suggested to be partly ...

The Proteoglycan Decorin Links Low Density Lipoproteins with Collagen Type I [PDF]
Decorin is a small dermatan sulfate-rich proteoglycan which binds to collagen type I in vitro and in vivo. In atherosclerotic lesions the contents of low density lipoprotein (LDL), decorin, and collagen type I are increased, and ultrastructural studies have suggested an association between LDL and collagen in the lesions.

Aggressive prostate cancer is associated with pericyte dysfunction
Tumor‐produced TGF‐β drives pericyte dysfunction in prostate cancer. This dysfunction is characterized by downregulation of some canonical pericyte markers (i.e., DES, CSPG4, and ACTA2) while maintaining the expression of others (i.e., PDGFRB, NOTCH3, and RGS5).

Transglutaminase 2 in human peritoneal dialysis‐related peritoneal injury
Patients undergoing long‐term peritoneal dialysis (PD) frequently develop peritoneal fibrosis and angiogenesis, leading to membrane dysfunction. Transglutaminase 2 (TG2) stabilizes the extracellular matrix against proteases.

Postnatal development of depth-dependent collagen density in ovine articular cartilage [PDF]
AbstractBackgroundArticular cartilage (AC) is the layer of tissue that covers the articulating ends of the bones in diarthrodial joints. Adult AC is characterised by a depth-dependent composition and structure of the extracellular matrix that results in depth-dependent mechanical properties, important for the functions of adult AC. Collagen is the most

Tumor-associated Endo180 requires stromal-derived LOX to promote metastatic prostate cancer cell migration on human ECM surfaces [PDF]
The diverse composition and structure of extracellular matrix (ECM) interfaces encountered by tumor cells at secondary tissue sites can influence metastatic progression. Extensive in vitro and in vivo data has confirmed that metastasizing tumor cells can

A mouse model for vascular normalization and a human breast cancer cohort were studied to understand the relationship between vascular leakage and tumor immune suppression. For this, endothelial and immune cell RNAseq, staining for vascular function, and immune cell profiling were employed.

Poly-l/dl-lactic acid films functionalized with collagen IV as carrier substrata for corneal epithelial stem cells [PDF]
Limbal epithelial stem cells (LESCs) are responsible for the renewal of corneal epithelium. Cultivated limbal epithelial transplantation is the current treatment of choice for restoring the loss or dysfunction of LESCs.
