Fighting the Fiber: Targeting Collagen in Lung Fibrosis
American Journal of Respiratory Cell and Molecular Biology, 2022Abstract Organ fibrosis is characterized by epithelial injury and aberrant tissue repair, where activated effector cells, mostly fibroblasts and myofibroblasts, excessively deposit collagen into the extracellular matrix. Fibrosis frequently results in organ failure and has been estimated to contribute to at least one-third of all ...

Abnormal amianthoid collagen fibers in meningioma
Acta Neuropathologica, 1988Electron microscopic examination of a spinal meningioma demonstrated broad zones with large amianthoid collagen fibers in the tumor. Normal native collagen fibrils were found in small scattered clumps particularly around the blood vessels in the tumor. Such abnormal large collagen fibrils have not been seen previously in meningiomas.

Superhydrophobic Modification of Collagen Fiber
Journal of the American Leather Chemists Association, 2022Tanning is considered to be the crosslinking reaction between collagen fibers and tanning agents, and a majority of tanning reactions result in suppressed water absorption and enhanced hydrophobicity of leather. However, extensive use of tanning agents may bring a burden to the environment.

A Differential Staining Method for Elastic Fibers, Collagenic Fibers, and Keratin
Stain Technology, 1951A method allowing for the differential presentation of elastic fibers, other connective tissue fibers, epithelial and other types of cytoplasm, and keratin is described. The procedure is based on the affinity of orcein for elastic fibers, of anilin blue for collagenic material, and of orange G for keratin.

Nonlinear microscopy of collagen fibers
SPIE Proceedings, 2007We used intrinsic Second Harmonic Generation (SHG) by fibrillar collagen to visualize the three-dimensional architecture of collagen fibrosis at the micrometer scale using laser scanning nonlinear microscopy. We showed that SHG signals are highly specific to fibrillar collagen and provide a sensitive probe of the micrometer-scale structural ...

Ascorbic Acid and Collagen Fiber Formation
1961Publisher Summary Despite the fact that the deficiency state known as scurvy has been recognized since antiquity and that it has been classically described by Walter as involving the healing of wounds as well as the maintenance of wounds that have already healed, it was not until 1919 that Aschoff and Koch, and then Hojer in 1924, carried out ...

[Ultrastructure of collagen fibers in the sclera].
Bollettino della Societa italiana di biologia sperimentale, 1981The Authors have studied the microfibrillar packing of the scleral collagen fibrils on thin sections of samples treated with a dissociant agent and on replicas of freeze-fractured fibrils. The only difference in observing the fibrils between the external and internal layers is relative to the diameter, evidencing in general, lower dimensions in the ...
