Myoblast seeding in a collagen matrix evaluatedin vitro
Journal of Biomedical Materials Research, 1996Collagens may be used as biomaterials for soft tissue reconstruction, e.g., the abdominal wall. We previously developed a biocompatible dermal sheep collagen (DSC), which in an abdominal wall reconstruction model showed controlled biodegradation and functioned as a matrix for in-growth of fibroblasts but not of muscle.

Micromechanics of Fibroblast Contraction of a Collagen-Gag Matrix
Advances in Bioengineering, 2001Abstract Contractile fibroblasts play a major role in the synthesis and remodeling of scar tissue following dermal injury. Inhibition of dermal wound contraction by contractile fibroblasts, using a collagen-GAG matrix, has been linked to the blocking of scar formation[1].

The collagen matrix of the heart.
Federation proceedings, 1981Scanning electron microscopy demonstrates an extensive and highly organized network of collagen in the left ventricle of all species examined. This system is arbitrarily divisible into three major components: a collagen weave network that surrounds groups of myocytes; an extensive array of collagen struts measuring 120 to 150 nm in diameter that extend

The role of the collagen matrix in skeletal fragility
Current Osteoporosis Reports, 2007The collagen network in bone provides resistance against fracture and may be susceptible to changes with aging and disease. This review identifies the changes in quality of collagen matrix as contributors to bone fragility. With aging and in diabetes, cross-links accumulate in bone collagen as a result of nonenzymatic glycation and consequently impair ...

Formation of calcium phosphate/collagen composites through mineralization of collagen matrix
Journal of Biomedical Materials Research, 2000Several types of calcium phosphate/collagen composites, including noncrystalline calcium phosphate/collagen, poorly crystalline carbonate-apatite (PCCA)/collagen, and PCCA + tetracalcium phosphate/collagen composites, were prepared through the mineralization of collagen matrix.

Effect of Oxazolidine E on Collagen Fibril Formation and Stabilization of the Collagen Matrix
Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, 2007Oxazolidine E, an aldehydic cross-linking agent, is used to impart hydrothermal stability to collagen. The purpose of this study was to investigate the exact nature of oxazolidine E induced cross-links with collagen by using synthetic peptides having sequence homology with collagen type I. Tandem mass spectrometry revealed the formation of methylol and

Matrix loading: Assembly of extracellular matrix collagen fibrils during embryogenesis
Birth Defects Research Part C: Embryo Today: Reviews, 2004AbstractNothing in biology stimulates the imagination like the development of a single fertilized egg into a newborn child. Consequently, a major focus of biomedical research is aimed at understanding cell differentiation, proliferation, and specialization during child health and human development.

[The role of collagen matrix in atherogenesis].
Nihon rinsho. Japanese journal of clinical medicine, 1993The different types of collagen including Types I, III, IV, V, VI and VIII are distributed in the artery. The atherosclerotic lesions, such as fatty streaks and atheromatous plaques, are characterised by an increase in types V and VI, which are localized in the region with a deposition of LDL and an infiltration of macrophages.
