Analysis of the Influence of Groundwater Level Fluctuation on Karst Soil Cave Collapse
Artificial water pumping and rainfall will induce groundwater level fluctuations, leading to large-scale karst collapse. Therefore, the combination of physical model test and FLAC3D numerical simulation is adopted to simulate the soil cave collapse ...

Large water-hammer pressure for column separation in pipelines [PDF]
Water-hammer pressures in a pipeline due to the collapse of a vapor cavity adjacent to a valve are investigated. A water-hammer event is initiated by the closure of a valve in a simple reservoir-pipeline-valve system.

ROLE OF PRESSURE IN QUASI-SPHERICAL GRAVITATIONAL COLLAPSE [PDF]
We study quasi-spherical Szekeres space–time (which possess no killing vectors) for perfect fluid, matter with tangential stress only and matter with anisotropic pressure respectively. In the first two cases cosmological solutions have been obtained and their asymptotic behavior have been examined while for anisotropic pressure, gravitational collapse

Non-spherical collapse of an air bubble subjected to a lithotripter pulse [PDF]
In order to better understand the contribution of bubble collapse to stone comminution in shockwave lithotripsy, the shockinduced and Rayleigh collapse of a spherical air bubble is investigated using numerical simulations, and the free-field collapse ...

Numerical simulations of non-spherical bubble collapse [PDF]
A high-order accurate shock- and interface-capturing scheme is used to simulate the collapse of a gas bubble in water. In order to better understand the damage caused by collapsing bubbles, the dynamics of the shock-induced and Rayleigh collapse of a ...

Shock-induced collapse of a gas bubble in shockwave lithotripsy [PDF]
The shock-induced collapse of a pre-existing nucleus near a solid surface in the focal region of a lithotripter is investigated. The entire flow field of the collapse of a single gas bubble subjected to a lithotripter pulse is simulated using a high ...

Transitions in Pressure Collapsed Clathrate Hydrates
Type II clathrate hydrates (CHs), or ice clathrates, are inclusion compounds in which a hydrogen-bonded cage-like structure of H2O accommodates molecules of suitable size, known as "guest molecules". CHs have similar local geometrical arrangements of the hydrogen-bonded water network as ice and both are known to collapse to amorphous states on ...

COLLAPSE OF TUBES BY EXTERNAL PRESSURE [PDF]
The problem of tube collapse by external pressure has been investigated experimentally. A graphical solution developed to simplify inelastic collapse design problems was shown to agree with the test results. The von Karman reduced modulus was used in the graphical solution to correct for the stress redistribution caused by yielding.
