Pressure-induced homothetic volume collapse in silicon clathrates

Europhysics Letters (EPL), 2005
The high-pressure properties of the Ba-doped silicon clathrate Ba8Si46 have been investigated combining X-ray diffraction and X-ray absorption spectroscopy. A pressure-induced isostructural phase transition associated with an important volume collapse takes place at 11.5–14 GPa.

Collapsing Cristobalitelike Structures in Silica Analogues at High Pressure

Physical Review Letters, 2003
The cristobalitelike forms of the ternary silica analogues BPO4 and BAsO4 were investigated at high pressure by x-ray diffraction and theoretical methods. The behavior of these compounds represents an extreme case in which the tilt angle of the constituent tetrahedra increases in a spectacular way at high pressure resulting in a major change in ...

Collapse Pressure of Oval Coiled Tubing

Proceedings of European Petroleum Conference, 1992
Abstract Coiled Tubing (CT) is sometimes used in applications where the pressure outside the CT may be higher than the pressure inside the CT. These applications include operations in high pressure wells1 and reverse circulation operations where a fluid is pumped down the annulus and returns are taken up through the CT. If the difference

The collapse of cylinder/sphere intersecting pressure vessels

Nuclear Structural Engineering, 1965
Abstract A general method is presented for finding lower and upper bounds on the collapse pressure for a plastic-rigid vessel composed of intersecting cylindrical and spherical shells obeying Tresca's yield condition and associated flow rule. Depending upon the ratio ( t d )/( T D ) different types of solutions are generated.

Pressure/flow behaviour in collapsible tube subjected to forced downstream pressure fluctuations

Medical & Biological Engineering & Computing, 1995
An experimental investigation has been made into the pressure/flow behaviour of a collapsible tube subjected to downstream pressure fluctuations. These downstream pressure waves are observed to be transmitted upstream beyond the point of collapse. The mean flow rate is not significantly affected by the amplitude or frequency of pressure fluctuations ...

The Collapse or Ballooning Pressure of Thick-Walled Pressure Vessels

MRS Proceedings, 1983
ABSTRACTDiscussion of the proposed extension of the ASME pressure vessel code to cover operating pressures up to 1.4 GPa (200000 lbf/in2 ) has generated the proposal that two criteria should be used, of which one would be the collapse or ballooning pressure not the bursting pressure.

Skewed norms under peer pressure: Formation and collapse [PDF]

open access: possible, 2014
This paper shows that peer pressure may lead to dynamic convergence to a norm that is skewed with respect to preferences in society, yet is endogenously upheld by the population. Moreover, a skewed norm will often be more sustainable than a representative norm. This may explain the skewness of various social and religious norms.

Collapse Tests on Externally Pressurized Toroids

Journal of Pressure Vessel Technology, 2002
The paper discusses the load-carrying capacity of toroidal shells with closed circular cross section and loaded by static external pressure. Details about the manufacturing, pre-experiment measurements and testing of three, nominally different, steel toroids are provided.
