Thumb Ulnar Collateral and Radial Collateral Ligament Injuries
Clinics in Sports Medicine, 2015Thumb metacarpophalangeal ulnar and radial collateral ligament injuries occur frequently in the competitive athlete. Collateral ligament integrity is essential to joint stability, pinch strength, and pain-free motion. Acute rupture of the ulnar collateral ligament is due to a sudden radial deviation force on the abducted thumb and is referred to as ...

The Collateral Ligaments of the Elbow
Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research, 2001Stability of the elbow is provided by the congruous nature of the bony articulations and the medial and lateral collateral ligament complexes. The medial ligament provides additional support to valgus stress. The lateral ligament prevents rotational instability between the distal humerus and the proximal radius and ulna.

BACKGROUND Injury to the lateral ulnar collateral ligament (LUCL) complex of the elbow often results in posterolateral rotatory instability. Although surgical reconstruction of the LUCL is often required, gaps in our understanding of the LUCL complex ...

The collateral ligaments of the elbow are responsible for stability in response to varus and valgus stress. Injury to the collateral ligaments can be acute, but it is usually due to repetitive microtrauma. In the general population, collateral ligament injury is rare, but in the appropriate individual with the proper forces applied to the elbow, this ...

Anterior Cruciate Ligament and Medial Collateral Ligament Injuries
Journal of Knee Surgery, 2014The diagnosis and treatment of combined anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and medial collateral ligament (MCL) injuries have evolved over the past 30 years. A detailed physical examination along with careful review of the magnetic resonance imaging and stress radiographs will guide decision making.

Recently, there has been an increased anatomic, biomechanical, and clinical understanding of both the intact and injured collateral ligaments of the knee. This greater understanding has resulted in an evolution of our approach toward surgical treatment and rehabilitation of the traumatized medial and lateral collateral ligaments.

THE "U-LIGAMENT" FOR COLLATERAL LIGAMENT RECONSTRUCTION IN DUPLICATE THUMB
Hand Surgery, 2005Duplicate thumb is a common congenital difference with complex management. Surgical treatment includes reconstruction of the collateral ligaments to optimise future function and cosmesis. We present the use of the "U-ligament" to further refine collateral ligament reconstruction. We have found it to be a simple and reliable technique.

The Ulnar Collateral Ligament Injury
Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery, 2017➤ Medial elbow pain in the throwing athlete can result from a variety of sources, including medial epicondylitis, valgus extension overload, ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) insufficiency, ulnar neuritis, and others.➤ Initial treatment following a UCL tear involves a period of rest (no throwing or strenuous use of the elbow ...
