Adenosine Biosynthesis in the Collecting Duct

The Journal of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics, 2003
Adenosine regulates tubular transport in collecting ducts (CDs); however, the sources of adenosine that modulate ion transport in CDs are unknown. The extracellular cAMP-adenosine pathway refers to the conversion of cAMP to AMP by ectophosphodiesterase, followed by metabolism of AMP to adenosine by ecto-5'-nucleotidase, with all steps occurring in the ...

Collecting Duct Function and Sodium Balance

Annual Review of Medicine, 1982
Our purpose is to review the role of the collecting tubule in sodium homeo stasis.2 Present understanding of collecting duct function is based primarily on work published in the last ten years. Because of its inaccessibility, little was known about the collecting tubule until the introduction of new investi gative techniques.

Kidney collecting duct acid-base “regulon”

Physiological Genomics, 2006
Kidneys are essential for acid-base homeostasis, especially when organisms cope with changes in acid or base dietary intake. Because collecting ducts constitute the final site for regulating urine acid-base balance, we undertook to identify the gene network involved in acid-base transport and regulation in the mouse outer medullary collecting duct ...

Collecting duct carcinoma of the kidney

Human Pathology, 1990
Collecting duct carcinoma is an unusual variant of renal cell carcinoma, whose appearance and behavior are not well established. We identified six cases of collecting duct carcinoma in our files. The clinical, pathologic, and immunohistochemical characteristics of these tumors are reported. The most common symptom was gross hematuria (four cases).

Collecting duct carcinoma of the kidney

Histopathology, 1986
Six cases of renal epithelial neoplasms, which show atypical histological features previously described in cases of collecting duct carcinomas, are presented. The tumours were of a tubulo‐papillary architecture, arose in the renal medulla and showed prominent infiltrating tubules with an associated desmoplastic reaction.

The medullary collecting duct urea transporters

Current Opinion in Nephrology and Hypertension, 1999
The terminal inner medullary collecting duct facilitated urea transporter, UT-A1, belongs to a family of four urea transporters. The inner medullary collecting duct also expresses three active urea transporters. Reducing urine concentrating ability in vivo upregulates UT-A1 and alters active urea secretion in the terminal inner medullary collecting ...

[Collecting duct (Bellini) carcinoma].

Archivos espanoles de urologia, 2004
To report one case of collecting duct (Bellini) carcinoma and to review the national bibliography. To analyze the clinical, diagnostic, and therapeutic features of this malignant renal tumor.A 36-year-old male presenting with monosymptomatic hematuria and clot retention was diagnosed of left renal mass suggestive of renal carcinoma. Radical nephrectomy
