Collocation and Constitution

Metaphysica, 2021
AbstractMany philosophers accept the view that, when one object constitutes a second (say a tree and an aggregate of wood molecules), the two objects can be entirely in the same place at the same time (collocated). But what of two objects such that neither constitutes the other (a non-constituting pair)? Can they be collocated?

Extracting Collocations in Contexts

2009
The aim of this paper is to develop (i) a general framework for the analysis of verb-noun (VN) collocations in English and Romanian, and (ii) a system for the extraction of VN-collocations from large tagged and annotated corpora. We identify VN-collocations in two steps: (i) by calculation of the frequent lexical co-occurrences of each VN-pair, and (ii)

Collocated and non-collocated control of flexible manipulators

2008
This chapter presents the development of closed-loop control strategies for flexible manipulator systems based on collocated and non-collocated control. A closed-loop control strategy using hub-angle and hub-velocity feedback for rigid-body motion control and end-point acceleration feedback forflexural motion control is considered.

Collocation and Relaxed Collocation for the Fer and the Magnus Expansions

SIAM Journal on Numerical Analysis, 1999
We consider the Fer and the Magnus expansions for the numerical solution of the nonlinear matrix Lie-group ODE $y' = \gamma(t,y) y$, $y(0)= y_0,$ where y evolves in a matrix Lie group G and $\gamma(t,y)$ is in the Lie algebra %$\hbox{\Fr{g}}$. $\ghe$.

The collocation method

USSR Computational Mathematics and Mathematical Physics, 1968
Abstract WHEN solving boundary value problems of mathematical physics by variational methods difficulties are often encountered in evaluating the integrals; and the difficulties are even greater whem empirical functions enter into the equations.

COLLOCATIONS IN LANGUAGE LEARNING: CORPUS‐BASED AUTOMATIC COMPILATION OF COLLOCATIONS AND BILINGUAL COLLOCATION CONCORDANCER

Computer Assisted Language Learning, 1997
Abstract While corpus‐based studies are becoming now a new methodology in natural language processing, second language learning seems to be an interesting potential application too. In this paper, we are primarily concerned with the acquisition of collocational knowledge from corpora to use it in the language learning process.

The concept of collocation

2013
The use of the word collocation has varied a great deal since it was first borrowed into English around the sixteenth century. The history of these changes is covered in detail as part of this chapter, but since there is still considerable variation in its use as a technical linguistic term it might be helpful to establish how the word is used in this ...

The Notion of Collocation

2017
Collocation not only plays a crucial role in language production and comprehension, but also functions as a key indicator of L2 learners’ overall proficiency in the field of second language acquisition. This chapter briefly clarifies the notion of collocation before presenting in the next chapter the reviews of L2 collocation studies.
