Fifty years of research on the Joulters ooid sandbody—Impact on carbonate sedimentology and diagenesis and lessons learned from an invaluable analogue

open access: yesThe Depositional Record, EarlyView.
The Joulters ooid sandbody of northern Great Bahama Bank is a vast expanse of muddy ooid sands partly rimmed by clean ooid sands and formed into a relatively thick layer of significant extent. Knowledge of the development of depositional and diagenetic patterns in the Joulters example has forwarded our general understanding of carbonate sedimentology ...

Studies on the Method of Orthogonal Collocation II. An Efficient Numerical Method for the Solution of the Transient Heat Conduction Problem

open access: yesJournal of King Saud University: Engineering Sciences, 1999
An efficient numerical method for the solution of the transient heat conduction problem is developed using the orthogonal collocation method. The method is based on dividing the domain of temperature change into two zones; a zone for which the ...

Fracturing behaviors of flawed granite induced by dynamic loadings: A study based on DIP and PFC

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
This research examines granite's mechanical properties under split‐Hopkinson pressure bar testing, focusing on factors such as grain size and flaw dimensions. The study reveals that tension cracks are prevalent across grain sizes, with most intergrain cracks occurring between feldspar and quartz.

Unisolvence of randomized MultiQuadric Kansa collocation for convection-diffusion with mixed boundary conditions [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
We make a further step in the open problem of unisolvence for unsymmetric Kansa collocation, proving that the MultiQuadric Kansa method with fixed collocation points and random fictitious centers is almost surely unisolvent, for stationary convection-diffusion equations with mixed boundary conditions on general domains. For the purpose of illustration,

Probability prediction of true‐triaxial compressive strength of intact rocks based on the improved PSO‐RVM model

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
In this work, we propose an improved particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm and develop an improved PSO‐relevance vector machine (RVM) model as a substitute for traditional true‐triaxial testing. The model's high prediction accuracy was validated through comparisons with two other machine learning methods and five three‐dimensional Hoek–Brown type
