A case of collodion skin in the newborn infant has been presented with typical features of parchment-like skin, ectropion of upper eyelids, and fixed semiflexion attitude of the limbs. This was followed by desquamation and appearance of normal looking skin in a few days. Etiology of the condition and proper nomenclature is still a matter of controversy.

Le terme de bébé collodion (BC) a été introduit en 1884 par Hallopeau pour décrire un nouveau-né présentant une membrane parcheminée recouvrant l’ensemble de son tégument [1]. Le phénotype BC est rare, estimé entre 1 pour 50 000 et 1 pour 100 000 naissances.

The study of 198 collodion babies, 29 personal cases and 169 from the literature was undertaken. The collodion membrane with spontaneously desquamate between the 15th day and 3rd month of life. During the neonatal period one third of the infants die due to pulmonary complications or infection.
