Giant lipoma of the descending colon
Hospital Medicine, 2002Lipomas are relatively rare in the gastrointestinal tract. About two thirds occur in the colon, most frequently in the caecum (Taylor et al, 1990). Most lipomas are found incidentally. Larger tumours may cause intermittent episodes of intussusception (Liessi et al, 1996). Radiological investigation can make the diagnosis. The authors present the barium

A case of dedifferentiated liposarcoma of the descending colon
Clinical Journal of Gastroenterology, 2023A 54-year-old man referred to our hospital for abdominal distension. He had no medical history. On physical examination, he complained lower abdominal distention, and had no spontaneous pain or tenderness. The blood tests showed that CEA and CA19-9 levels were within normal limits. Colonoscopy revealed a submucosal tumor with irregularities and mucosal

Vascular Anatomy of the Descending Colon of the Horse
Veterinary Surgery, 1989The blood supply to the descending colon of the horse was studied by gross dissection and methyl methacrylate corrosion casts. The arterial supply is derived from the left colic artery and cranial rectal artery with the left colic artery supplying approximately the proximal three fourths. Each artery gives off four to eight arcuate arteries that form a

Colonic intussusception in descending colon: An unusual presentation of colon lipoma.
Gastroenterology and hepatology from bed to bench, 2016Lipomas of the colon are relatively rare benign soft tissue tumors derived from mature adipocytes of mesenchymatic origin. During colonoscopy, surgery or autopsy they are generally discovered incidentally. Most cases are asymptomatic, with a small tumor size, and do not need any special treatment. However, in the cases with larger in size of tumor some

Potassium transport by rabbit descending colon
American Journal of Physiology-Cell Physiology, 1982Unidirectional mucosal-to-serosal (Jm leads to s) and serosal-to-mucosal (Js leads to m) fluxes of potassium and sodium were determined simultaneously on paired sections of descending colon from the same rabbit under short-circuit conditions. In 13-16 pairs of tissues, net potassium secretion and sodium absorption averaged 0.49 +/- 0.08 and 4.0 +/- 0 ...

Microvascular circulation of the descending colon in horses
American Journal of Veterinary Research, 1992Summary The microvascular circulation of the descending colon was studied in 5 adult horses, using microangiography and light microscopy combined with gross studies and scanning electron microscopy of vascular replicas. After heparinization, horses were euthanatized, and 3 segments of the descending colon and its mesentery containing 1 vascular arcade ...

Gall-stone Obstruction of the Descending Colon
The British Journal of Radiology, 1962Up to date, 675 cases of gall-stone obstruction, comprising 3 per cent of all cases of intestinal obstruction, have been reported. These usually present as intermittent and incomplete obstruction in elderly women, in whom only 50 per cent have a history of previous gall-bladder trouble. Delay in diagnosis in the past has been reflected in the mortality,

[Surgical treatment of colonic fistulas with descending colon].
Khirurgiia, 1995Radical operations were conducted on 50 out of 78 patients with coloperineal and colovaginal fistulas consequent upon resection of the colon and bringing out its segments into the anal canal. The fistulas recurred in 10 patients. Individual choice of the operative method and development of a system of pre-, intra-, and postoperative special methods ...

Basaloid carcinoma of descending colon.
Indian journal of gastroenterology : official journal of the Indian Society of Gastroenterology, 2002A 24-year old woman presented with abdominal pain and diarrhea. Examination showed distension and tenderness of the abdomen. At laparotomy, she had a circumferential obstructing growth in the descending colon, with hemorrhagic ascites and metastases in the liver and lymph nodes. Microscopy showed features of basaloid variety of cloacogenic tumors.
