Tube decompression after distal colectomy [PDF]

open access: yes, 1972
Paper read at the Annual Clinical Meeting of the Association of Surgeons and Physicians of Malta in December 1971. Defunctioning of the proximal colon after resection of the distal colon and anastomosis is a well-recognised procedure.

Gel‐immersion Endoscopic Submucosal Dissection for Superficial Colorectal Neoplasms: A Retrospective Study Comparing Conventional Endoscopic Submucosal Dissection

open access: yesDEN Open, Volume 6, Issue 1, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Objectives Gel‐immersion endoscopy offers benefits such as buoyancy, traction, and a clear visual field without gas insufflation. While some case reports have described colorectal gel‐immersion endoscopic submucosal dissection (Gi‐ESD), there have been no consecutive case series. This study aimed to clarify the usefulness of Gi‐ESD.

Underwater Endoscopic Mucosal Resection as a Salvage Strategy for a Non‐Lifting Early Sigmoid Colon Carcinoma After Failed Conventional Endoscopic Mucosal Resection: A Case Report

open access: yesDEN Open, Volume 6, Issue 1, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR) has been widely adopted as an endoscopic treatment for colorectal tumors. However, in non‐lifting lesions, EMR often becomes technically challenging, leading to piecemeal resection or residual tumor. Recently, underwater EMR (UEMR) has been developed as a novel technique that allows mucosal and submucosal ...

Direct observation of an exposed blood vessel in a colonic diverticulum using ultrathin endoscopy

open access: yesDEN Open
In recent years, cases of diverticular bleeding have become more common. Although identifying the bleeding diverticulum is difficult, it is even more difficult to identify the exposed blood vessels in the bleeding diverticulum.

Short‐Term Efficacy and Long‐Term Limitations of Self‐Expandable Metallic Stent Placement for Colorectal Obstruction due to Extracolonic Malignancies

open access: yesDEN Open, Volume 6, Issue 1, April 2026.
Abstract Objectives Although previous studies have investigated colonic stenting for obstruction due to extracolonic malignancies (ECMs), long‐term data—especially concerning quality of life and chemotherapy resumption—remain insufficient. Methods Clinical data of 25 patients with ECM‐induced colorectal obstruction were retrospectively analyzed.

Safety Profile of Low‐Power Pure‐Cut Hot Snare Polypectomy for 10–14 mm Nonpedunculated Colorectal Neoplasms

open access: yesDEN Open, Volume 6, Issue 1, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Objectives The reported rate of delayed bleeding (DB) after hot snare polypectomy (HSP) for 10–19‐mm polyps is 2.1%–2.8%, which is non‐negligible. We hypothesized that a low‐power pure‐cut current (LPPC) yields a lower risk of DB than a coagulation current, and we evaluated the safety of LPPC HSP for colorectal polyps.

Adalimumab‐responsive Monogenic Inflammatory Bowel Disease With Pseudopolyposis Characteristic of TGFBR2 Variant in Loeys‐Dietz Syndrome

open access: yesDEN Open, Volume 6, Issue 1, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Loeys‐Dietz syndrome (LDS) is an autosomal dominant connective tissue disorder caused by pathogenic variants in TGFBR1 or TGFBR2. It is characterized by vascular fragility, skeletal abnormalities, and predisposition to allergic and inflammatory conditions, including monogenic inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).

Pre‐ and post‐diagnostic meat intake in relation to risk of recurrence and mortality among individuals with stage I–III colorectal cancer

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cancer, Volume 158, Issue 4, Page 895-908, 15 February 2026.
What's new? Processed meat and unprocessed red meat intakes are associated with increased colorectal cancer risk. However, evidence on their associations with mortality after colorectal cancer diagnosis is inconsistent. This study examined associations between three meat types, including unprocessed poultry, and the risk of recurrence and all‐cause ...

Comparing the Molecular Pharmacological Properties of Existing β‐Blockers to Determine the Theoretically Most “Ideal” Anti‐Cancer β‐Blocker

open access: yesPharmacology Research &Perspectives, Volume 14, Issue 1, February 2026.
ABSTRACT There is increasing evidence, from cellular, animal and human epidemiological studies, linking β‐blockers with reductions in cancer growth and metastasis. Propranolol is the most investigated β‐blocker for cancer; although as many different off‐patent β‐blockers exist, there is little commercial incentive to drive comparative clinical trials ...

Integrated Multi‐Omic Analysis Identifies Altered Colonic Brush Border Profile as a Key Feature of Microscopic Colitis

open access: yesUnited European Gastroenterology Journal, Volume 14, Issue 1, February 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Microscopic colitis (MC), comprising lymphocytic colitis (LC) and collagenous colitis (CC), is an inflammatory bowel disease with increasing incidence. MC etiopathogenesis remains unknown; however, altered colonic epithelial integrity may underlie uncontrolled luminal antigen passage, triggering immuno‐inflammatory responses ...
