Pathology - Research and Practice, 2000A case of elastofibroma occurring in the sigmoid colon of a 69 year-old woman is reported. The woman presented for survey of her gastrointestinal tract. Colonoscopy disclosed two polyps in the sigmoid colon, one of which was clinically considered to be recurrent adenoma.

Actinomycosis of the sigmoid colon

Penicillin, achromycin and potassium iodide proved effective in the postoperative management of this disease which was complicated by infection with Escherchia coli in the abdominal wall.

Australian and New Zealand Journal of Surgery, 1966Summary1. Carcinoma of the sigmoid colon occurred mostly between 40 and 80 years of age, with the highest incidence between 60–70 years. The disease affected 3 patients in their twenties. Females are slightly more commonly involved.2. Two‐thirds of the patients had a typical non‐urgent mode of presentation.

A study of 37 patients with sigmoid volvulus is presented. Subsequent bouts of recurrent volvulus are very common after sigmoidoscopic intubation, and overall mortality rates are high. Surgical resection is the preferred method of treatment.

Hypernephroma of the sigmoid colon

Nowhere in the Iiteratuie couId an instance be found in which metastasis to the mucosa of the coIon had been reported, ala large, firm mass in the Ieft upper abdomen that was thought to be distended coIon. Proctoscopic examination was negative for a distance of 7 inches.
