Targeting hexokinase 2 to induce breast cancer cell senescence

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Background and Purpose Hexokinase 2 (HK2) is a key enzyme linked to high tumour cell proliferation. Its inhibitors such as 3‐bromopyruvic acid (3‐BP) induce cancer cell death, highlighting HK2 modulation as potential anti‐cancer treatment. However, standard chemotherapies often cause the emergence of senescent cancer cells, which goes along with cell ...

Label Noise in Pathological Segmentation Is Overlooked, Leading to Potential Overestimation of Artificial Intelligence

open access: yesCancer Science, EarlyView.
This study evaluated how artificial label noise affects cancer pathology segmentation models, demonstrating that boundary‐dependent noise leads to overestimation of performance metrics, while random noise mixtures further harm generalization. Our results highlight the need for standardized noise‐quantification and mitigation methods and for developing ...

Asymptomatic sigmoid diverticulum perforation-induced subcutaneous, mediastinal, and retroperitoneal emphysema: A case report and literature review

open access: yesRespiratory Medicine Case Reports
Background: Mediastinal and subcutaneous emphysema usually result from spontaneous rupture of the alveolar wall. We present an educational case of subcutaneous, mediastinal, and retroperitoneal emphysema discovered during a routine medical check-up ...

Dietary anthocyanidin pelargonidin activates G protein‐coupled receptor 35

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
Pelargonidin, a red‐fruit‐derived anthocyanidin, was newly identified as a dietary agonist of GPR35, a metabolite‐sensing GPCR implicated in anti‐inflammation. Through screening of dietary compounds, pelargonidin emerged as a potent GPR35 agonist, attenuating inflammation in human intestinal cells.

Brain tissue classification in hyperspectral images using multistage diffusion features and transformer

open access: yesJournal of Microscopy, EarlyView.
Abstract Brain surgery is a widely practised and effective treatment for brain tumours, but accurately identifying and classifying tumour boundaries is crucial to maximise resection and avoid neurological complications. This precision in classification is essential for guiding surgical decisions and subsequent treatment planning.

Synchronic Volvulus of Sigmoid and Transverse Colon: A Rare Case of Large Bowel Obstruction [PDF]

open access: yesIranian Journal of Colorectal Research, 2014
Introduction: Volvulus of two segments of colon has been reported rarely, as either synchronous or metachronous events. Colonic volvulus involving both transverse and sigmoid colon is a rare medical problem frequently dismissed as a cause of large bowel ...

Artificial intelligence‐powered microscopy: Transforming the landscape of parasitology

open access: yesJournal of Microscopy, EarlyView.
Abstract Microscopy and image analysis play a vital role in parasitology research; they are critical for identifying parasitic organisms and elucidating their complex life cycles. Despite major advancements in imaging and analysis, several challenges remain. These include the integration of interdisciplinary data; information derived from various model

Use of Laxative-Augmented Contrast Medium Increases the Accuracy in the Detection of Colorectal Neoplasms

open access: yesDiagnostics
Colonic adenomas are considered a precursor of colorectal cancer. A 75-year-old woman had a history of post-operation left breast cancer. She received an excision when the left chest wall recurred.
