Breeding in natural nesting sites can improve the resilience of local Lesser Kestrel (Falco naumanni) populations to environmental changes

open access: yesIbis, Volume 168, Issue 2, Page 465-478, April 2026.
The identification of key habitats of threatened species and of extrinsic environmental factors that influence their resilience to human‐induced environmental changes are the foundation for the definition of conservation objectives. Using the presence and numerical abundance data collected in a long‐term survey (2000–24) of breeding colonies of Lesser ...

Models suggesting field experiments to test two hypotheses explaining successional diversity [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
A simple mathematical model of competition is developed that includes two alternative mechanisms promoting successional diversity. The first underpins the competition-colonization hypothesis in which early successional species are able to persist because

Record phenological responses to climate change in three sympatric penguin species

open access: yesJournal of Animal Ecology, Volume 95, Issue 3, Page 455-469, March 2026.
This paper is impressive because we managed to monitor extensively a really difficult place to reach and operate in. We deployed 77 cameras across Antarctica and the Sub Antarctic islands to monitor three different species of penguins. We found that they are the fastest advancing vertebrates with respect to their timing of breeding.
