Candida colonization on the denture of diabetic and non-diabetic patients

open access: yesDental Research Journal, 2009
Background: Oral candidiasis is a common opportunistic infection in diabetic patients. Presence of denture in the oral cavity of diabetic patients can promote Candida colonization and results in the higher incidence of oral and systemic candidiasis.

Asymmetric Dispersal and Colonization Success of Amazonian Plant-Ants Queens

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2011
Background The dispersal ability of queens is central to understanding ant life-history evolution, and plays a fundamental role in ant population and community dynamics, the maintenance of genetic diversity, and the spread of invasive ants.

Mechanically Tunable Bone Scaffolds: In Vivo Hardening of 3D‐Printed Calcium Phosphate/Polycaprolactone Inks

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A 3D bone scaffold with osteogenic properties and capable of hardening in vivo is developed. The scaffold is implanted in a ductile state, and a phase transformation of the ceramic induces the stiffening and strengthening of the scaffold in vivo. Abstract Calcium phosphate 3D printing has revolutionized customized bone grafting.

Upregulation of Integrin-α6 and Integrin-β1 Gene Expressions in Mouse Spermatogonial Stem Cells after Continues and Pulsed Low Intensity Ultrasound Stimulation

open access: yesCell Journal, 2017
Objective low intensity ultrasound (continues and pulsed) is a form of energy. Spermatogonial stem cells (SSCs) are at the base of male fertility. This study investigated the effects of low intensity ultrasound stimulation (LIUS) and low intensity ...

Bicontinuous Microarchitected Scaffolds Provide Topographic Cues That Govern Neuronal Behavior and Maturation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A scalable biomimetic platform transforms bioinert poly(ethylene glycol) diacrylate into neuroinstructive matrices via integrating solvent transfer‐induced phase separation, microfluidics, and 3D bioprinting. Bicontinuous, hyperbolically curved microporous networks embedded within a fibrous construct elicit rapid adhesion, robust proliferation, and ...

Colonization of malaria vectors under semi-field conditions as a strategy for maintaining genetic and phenotypic similarity with wild populations

open access: yesMalaria Journal, 2015
BackgroundMalaria still accounts for an estimated 207 million cases and 627,000 deaths worldwide each year. One proposed approach to complement existing malaria control methods is the release of genetically-modified (GM) and/or sterile male mosquitoes ...
