O que Está Aquecendo Nossa Terra? O Calor Entre o Antropoceno e a Colonização

open access: yesMediações: Revista de Ciências Sociais, 2022
The debate around the concept of the Anthropocene has been broad and dynamic, making it possible to go beyond the limits of the different scientific areas in a dispute of conceptual, political, and ontological paradigms, in the search for alternatives to

Biofilm Structures in a Mono-Associated Mouse Model of Clostridium difficile Infection

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2017
Clostridium difficile infection (CDI) is a major healthcare-associated disease with high recurrence rates. Host colonization is critical for the infectious process, both in first episodes and in recurrent disease, with biofilm formation playing a key ...

Association between genotypic diversity and biofilm production in group B Streptococcus [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Background: Group B Streptococcus (GBS) is a leading cause of sepsis and meningitis and an important factor in premature and stillbirths. Biofilm production has been suggested to be important for GBS pathogenesis alongside many other elements ...

LDAcoop: Integrating non‐linear population dynamics into the analysis of clonogenic growth in vitro

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Limiting dilution assays (LDAs) quantify clonogenic growth by seeding serial dilutions of cells and scoring wells for colony formation. The fraction of negative wells is plotted against cells seeded and analyzed using the non‐linear modeling of LDAcoop.

Transmission Dynamics of Hyper-Endemic Multi-Drug Resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae in a Southeast Asian Neonatal Unit: A Longitudinal Study With Whole Genome Sequencing

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2018
Background:Klebsiella pneumoniae is an important and increasing cause of life-threatening disease in hospitalized neonates. Third generation cephalosporin resistance (3GC-R) is frequently a marker of multi-drug resistance, and can complicate management ...

Allee Effects May Slow the Spread of Parasites in a Coastal Marine Ecosystem [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Allee effects are thought to mediate the dynamics of population colonization, particularly for invasive species. However, Allee effects acting on parasites have rarely been considered in the analogous process of infectious disease establishment and ...

Plecstatin inhibits hepatocellular carcinoma tumorigenesis and invasion through cytolinker plectin

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The ruthenium‐based metallodrug plecstatin exerts its anticancer effect in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) primarily through selective targeting of plectin. By disrupting plectin‐mediated cytoskeletal organization, plecstatin inhibits anchorage‐dependent growth, cell polarization, and tumor cell dissemination.
