Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Clinics of North America, 1997
A new method for colon examination, virtual colonoscopy, has been created by combining spiral computed tomography and virtual reality computer technology. If virtual colonoscopy proves equal to or superior to traditional colonoscopy in sensitivity and specificity for cancer screening, it would yield significant clinical and public health benefits ...

Current Treatment Options in Gastroenterology, 2014
Colonoscopy with polypectomy has been established as the major prevention and detection strategy for colorectal cancer for over a decade. Over this period advances in colonoscopic imaging, polyp detection, prediction of histopathology and polypectomy techniques have all been seen; however, the true magnitude of the limitations of colonoscopy has only ...

Current Gastroenterology Reports, 2015
Quality metrics in colonoscopy are a growing area of focus given the development of and need for associated reporting and potential financial penalties. Three areas specifically have been identified as important by a multi-society task force, and the evidence behind each has been presented here.

Therapeutic Colonoscopy, Complications of Colonoscopy
1999Polypectomy is the commonest therapeutic maneuver performed at the time of colonoscopy. This technique is described in Chapter 53 (Therapeutic Flexible Sigmoidoscopy). Control of bleeding and removal of foreign objects are also discussed in that section. This section of the manual describes decompressive colonoscopy for Ogilvie’s syndrome, reduction of

This article focuses on technique and clinical application of ileocolonoscopy and enteroscopy in children. The impact of endoscopic investigations and therapies on specific disease processes and comparison with alternative methods are discussed. Pediatric colonoscopy and enteroscopy differ significantly from their adult counterparts in nearly every ...

Pediatrics, 1984
A review was made of 139 fiberoptic colonoscopies performed between 1975 and 1982 on 113 patients aged 1 month to 20 years. General anesthesia was used in four procedures. All others were done under sedation with meperidine (mean dose 2.9 mg/kg) and diazepam (mean dose 0.5 mg/kg).

The American Journal of Surgery, 1981
The flexible 65 cm endoscope, while introduced for use in the diagnosis of colonic disease in adults, has proven valuable for diagnosis and treatment in children. The diameter of the American Cystoscope Company's instrument makes it ideal for children. The spectrum of colonic disease in children parallels that in adults.

Scandinavian Journal of Gastroenterology, 1990
In a prospective study involving 833 consecutive outpatient and open-access colonoscopies, attempts were made to characterize the benefit of colonoscopy in terms of both predicted and unpredicted findings and therapeutic procedures. The endoscopist therefore predicted the endoscopic findings before the endoscopy.
