In an effort to determine the reliability of colonoscopy the authors retrospectively reviewed preoperative colonoscopic findings and compared them with the postoperative pathologic specimen reports. Only lesions greater than 0.5 cm were included in the comparison.

The colonoscope could not traverse the plenic flexure of the colon because of sigmoid tortuosity. The atient then had CT colonography (virtual colonoscopy), hich revealed a fold in the cecum (A).

She also presented with urgency, occasional faecal incontinence, excessive bloating and flatulence. She had lost 14 kg in weight over the same period.
