Color Constancy in Shadows

Journal of the Optical Society of America, 1958
Because color samples perceived as surfaces or objects tend to look much the same under various viewing conditions, they are said to possess color constancy. The viewing condition chosen for study was an obvious shadow of daylight quality falling on a color sample and part of a surrounding white field; the less the effect of the shadow on the color ...

Evolving color constancy

Pattern Recognition Letters, 2006
The ability to compute color constant descriptors of objects in view irrespective of the light illuminating the scene is called color constancy. We have used genetic programming to evolve an algorithm for color constancy. The algorithm runs on a grid of processing elements.

GPU Color Constancy

Journal of Graphics Tools, 2008
A sensor located inside a digital camera is only able to measure the light that is reflected by an object. The reflected light varies with the spectral power distribution of the illuminant. Hence, images taken with a digital camera may show a strong color cast if an incorrect white balance setting has been chosen.

Bayesian color constancy revisited

2008 IEEE Conference on Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition, 2008
Computational color constancy is the task of estimating the true reflectances of visible surfaces in an image. In this paper we follow a line of research that assumes uniform illumination of a scene, and that the principal step in estimating reflectances is the estimation of the scene illuminant.

Quasi-Unsupervised Color Constancy

2019 IEEE/CVF Conference on Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition (CVPR), 2019
We present here a method for computational color constancy in which a deep convolutional neural network is trained to detect achromatic pixels in color images after they have been converted to grayscale. The method does not require any information about the illuminant in the scene and relies on the weak assumption, fulfilled by almost all images ...

Digital color imaging with color constancy

Systems and Computers in Japan, 2002
Abstract“Color constancy” which gives almost constant color perception of an object under illumination of various colors, is an important characteristic in identifying objects by our color vision. This paper proposes an algorithm to add color constancy to a digital camera, which reconstructs an image under arbitrary light conditions by using a pair of ...

Color Constancy

Advances in Color Vision, 1992
We have investigated the extent of color constancy in complex (Mondrian) and simple (center-surround) displays. Our critical finding is that the extent of lightness and color constancy in such displays depend heavily on the instructions given to subjects. We also find, not surprisingly, that adaptation has a powerful effect on color constancy. Stimulus

Color perception and the limits of color constancy

Journal of Mathematical Biology, 1979
A summary of colorimetry is given and the limits of color constancy mechanism under changing illuminations are discussed.

Classification-Based Color Constancy

2008
In this work, we investigate how illuminant estimation techniques can be improved using indoor/outdoor classification. The illuminant estimation algorithms considered are derived from the framework recently proposed by Van de Weijer and Gevers.
