Enhanced Color-to-Gray Conversion

Important visual details are lost when a color image is converted into a luminance image using GIMP, Adobe Photoshop, or other graphic tools (see Figure 1). An enhanced conversion method is presented that creates an optimized grayscale image with visual artifacts of the standard method reduced to a minimum.

Conversion of color documents to grayscale

The sensitivity of the M-cones and L-cones of an anomalous trichromat is lower than that of normal trichromats. By intensifying the light to the cones with lower sensitivity, the output ratio from the cone approached the level of a normal trichromat, and it was presumed that achieving close to original color recognition was a possibility.

Fast Algorithm for HDR Color Conversion

The paper addresses a problem of perceptual artifacts that appear in Y'CbCr non-linear luminance 4:2:0 HDR video. A computationally inexpensive method is proposed for converting the 4:4:4 HDR video to Y'CbCr 4:2:0 nonconstant luminance format. The method removes artifacts in areas with saturated colors.

AbstractThis article describes a new method for color‐notation conversion between the Munsell and CIE color systems by means of neural networks. A multilayer feedforward network is regarded as a nonlinear transformer which is trained to learn a mapping between the two color spaces. We adopt the backpropagation learning rule for the training.
