Processing Color Images, Brightness and Color Conversion

2019 International Conference on Information Science and Communications Technologies (ICISCT), 2019
The use of color in image processing is due to two main reasons. Firstly, color is an important feature that often facilitates recognition and selection of an object in an image. Secondly, a person is able to distinguish between thousands of different shades of color and only about two dozen shades of gray.

Color To Colorant Conversions In A Colorimetric Separation System

SPIE Proceedings, 1990
Within several years of establishment of the CIE's Standard Observer, Neugebauer based upon it a device-independent interpretation of ink mixture in halftone color reproduction. Despite limitations of the model, his approach is of fundamental importance at a time in which document preparation in distributed computing environments is coming of age ...

Image Statistics Conversion for Color Transfer

2020 IEEE International Symposium on Broadband Multimedia Systems and Broadcasting (BMSB), 2020
This paper proposes an image statistics conversion method for color transfer. The proposed method enables color transfer in various color spaces using statistics such as mean, variance, and covariance of images. The proposed method is implemented by linear transform the stored statistical values into the desired color space.

Color image resolution conversion

IEEE Transactions on Image Processing, 2005
In this paper, we look at the problem of spatially scaling color images. We focus on an approach that takes advantage of the human visual system's color spatial frequency sensitivity. The algorithm performs an efficient least-squares (LS) resolution conversion for the luminance channel and a low-complexity pixel replication/reduction in the chrominance

Enhanced Color-to-Gray Conversion

Journal of Graphics Tools, 2008
Important visual details are lost when a color image is converted into a luminance image using GIMP, Adobe Photoshop, or other graphic tools (see Figure 1). An enhanced conversion method is presented that creates an optimized grayscale image with visual artifacts of the standard method reduced to a minimum.

A Study on Color Conversion for Color Deficient People to Identify Color

2009
The sensitivity of the M-cones and L-cones of an anomalous trichromat is lower than that of normal trichromats. By intensifying the light to the cones with lower sensitivity, the output ratio from the cone approached the level of a normal trichromat, and it was presumed that achieving close to original color recognition was a possibility.

Color-to-gray conversion using ISOMAP

The Visual Computer, 2009
In this paper we present a new algorithm to transform an RGB color image to a grayscale image. We propose using nonlinear dimension reduction techniques to map higher dimensional color vectors to lower dimensional ones. This approach generalizes the gradient domain manipulation for high dimensional images.

Color-to-grayscale conversion to maintain discriminability

SPIE Proceedings, 2003
Monochrome devices that receive color imagery must perform a conversion from color to grayscale. The most common approach is to calculate the luminance signal from the three color signals. The problem with this approach is that the distinction between two colors of similar luminance (but different hue) is lost.

Fast and adaptive color-to-grayscale conversion

ACM SIGGRAPH 2006 Sketches on - SIGGRAPH '06, 2006
Methods and systems, including computer program products, for determining a plurality of color clusters based on a plurality of pixels associated with a color image, the clusters being fewer than the pixels. A grayscale value for each one of a plurality of points in a color space is determined.

Color-to-grayscale conversion with color clustering and significance criteria

SPIE Proceedings, 2010
An image processing algorithm is presented that adaptively converts color images to grayscale. The intent of the conversion is to preserve color information that is traditionally lost by the conversion process. The conversion produces high-contrast grayscale representations with enhanced color discriminability. A web-based psychometric study confirms
