AWSD Reactive Burn Model for the HMX‐Based High Explosive LX‐04

open access: yesPropellants, Explosives, Pyrotechnics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT An Arrhenius–Wescott–Stewart–Davis (AWSD) reactive burn model is applied to describe shock initiation and detonation properties of the HMX‐based high explosive LX‐04. The parameters in the model are calibrated to data from multiple sources. The thermodynamic equations of state used in the model are calibrated to a combination of thermochemical

Observations and numerical simulations of a valley‐exit wind in the Alpine Bolzano basin

open access: yesQuarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society, EarlyView.
The evolution and spreading of the nocturnal valley‐exit wind flowing from the Isarco Valley into the Bolzano basin, in the Italian Alps, are found to be influenced by the basin temperature stratification. Measurements and high‐resolution simulations show that a cold‐air pool favors an upward trajectory of the flow at the exit of the valley.

Spatial observation‐error correlations for AMSU‐A in all‐sky assimilation: An ECMWF and UK Met Office intercomparison

open access: yesQuarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society, EarlyView.
Assimilation of AMSU‐A all‐sky observations can be increased up to fivefold if spatial observation‐error correlations are accounted for properly. New correlation estimates derived using data from ECMWF and the UK Met Office reveal that correlation length‐scales are between 75 and 150 km for AMSU‐A channels peaking in the troposphere. This is attributed

Characteristics of upper‐level updrafts and downdrafts in the anvils of tropical deep convective clouds

open access: yesQuarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society, EarlyView.
This study investigates the thermodynamic and microphysical characteristics of updrafts and downdrafts of tropical deep convective anvil clouds using in situ measurements. We found that parts of the downdrafts are in ice supersaturation in these clouds.

FLSea: Underwater Visual–Inertial and Stereovision Forward‐Looking Data Sets

open access: yesJournal of Field Robotics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Visibility underwater is challenging and degrades as the distance between the subject and the camera increases. That is why forward‐looking underwater computer vision tasks are difficult. We have collected underwater forward‐looking stereovision and visual–inertial image sets using two underwater imaging platforms, a stereo camera rig, and an ...
