Color weakness in congenital color perception deficiency of various degrees

open access: yesJournal of Ophthalmology, 2018
Background: The prevalence of congenital color vision defects (CCVD) is reported to be approximately 8% in males and 0.5% in females, and, therefore, the use of optimal tests capable of diagnosing these defects early and accurately, and with all the ...

Color Perception: A Correction [PDF]

open access: yesScience, 1893
I hasten to send this note of correction to my paper on ""Distance and Color Perception by Infants"" in Science , April 28—an error brought to my attention by a friend. In Tables I. and II. of that article (p. 231) I have taken the proportion of ""acceptances"" to the entire number of cases (the ratio A/N) after ...

Packaging of Macroscopic Material Payloads: Needs, Challenges, Concepts, and Future Directions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This review introduces a unified framework that decomposes any macroscopic packaging system into the payload, packaging material, and packaging strategy and combines them into a conceptual packaging equation: packaging strategy = payload + packaging material.

Problems for the Purported Cognitive Penetration of Perceptual Color Experience and Macpherson’s Proposed Mechanism

open access: yesThe Baltic International Yearbook of Cognition, Logic and Communication, 2014
Fiona Macpherson (2012) argues that various experimental results provide strong evidence in favor of the cognitive penetration of perceptual color experience. Moreover, she proposes a mechanism for how such cognitive penetration occurs.

Digital Actuation Control of Soft Robotic Origami With Self‐Folding Liquid Crystal Elastomer Hinges

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Self‐folding soft‐rigid hybrid robotic origami is enabled by liquid crystal elastomer actuators with embedded Joule heating and closed‐loop digital control. Digitally addressable hinges provide reversible and programmable transitions between distinct folded states while maintaining actuation performance at high cycle counts (over 1500).

Wearing colored glasses can influence the exercise performance and testosterone concentration [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Perception of red color is associated with higher testosterone concentration and better human performance. Thus, we evaluated the acute effects of wearing colored-lens glasses on the YoYo intermittent endurance exercise test 2 (YoYoIE2) performance ...

From Food to Power: Hydrogel Thermoelectrics for Ingestible Electronics

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We introduce a fully edible thermoelectric–electrochromic platform that harvests heat from food and converts it into a visible color change. N‐type and p‐type hydrogel thermoelectric generators connected in series power anthocyanin‐based electrochromic displays, demonstrating the feasibility of safe, biodegradable, ingestible systems for on‐food ...

On Edwin H. Land\u27s Retinex Theory: Developing a Classroom Demonstration for Color Vision [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The phenomenon of visual perception is a fundamental process that many take for granted. Perception of color is important because it allows for the identification of food, avoidance of possible threats from the environment and communication.
