Patient-identified early clinical warning signs of nodular melanoma: a qualitative study

open access: yesBMC Cancer, 2021
Background Nodular (NM) and superficial spreading melanoma (SSM) show different disease trajectories, with more rapid development in NM and fewer opportunities for early detection often resulting in worse outcomes.

Hard X-ray emission of Sco X-1

open access: yes, 2014
We study hard X-ray emission of the brightest accreting neutron star Sco X-1 with INTEGRAL observatory. Up to now INTEGRAL have collected ~4 Msec of deadtime corrected exposure on this source.

Spreading Widths of Doorway States [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
As a function of energy E, the average strength function S(E) of a doorway state is commonly assumed to be Lorentzian in shape and characterized by two parameters, the peak energy E_0 and the spreading width Gamma. The simple picture is modified when the

Infrared laser sampling of low volumes combined with shotgun lipidomics reveals lipid markers in palatine tonsil carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Nanosecond infrared laser (NIRL) low‐volume sampling combined with shotgun lipidomics uncovers distinct lipidome alterations in oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC) of the palatine tonsil. Several lipid species consistently differentiate tumor from healthy tissue, highlighting their potential as diagnostic markers.

A FULLY AUTOMATIC GENETIC APPROACH FOR GRAYSCALE IMAGE COLORIZATION

open access: yesJournal of Engineering, 2006
Colorization is a computer assisted process of adding color to a monochrome (grayscale) image or movie. The early published methods to perform the image colorizing rely on heuristic techniques for choosing RGB colors from a global palette and applying ...

Dynamical interplay between awareness and epidemic spreading in multiplex networks

open access: yes, 2013
We present the analysis of the interrelation between two processes accounting for the spreading of an epidemics, and the information awareness to prevent its infection, on top of multiplex networks.

Peroxidasin enables melanoma immune escape by inhibiting natural killer cell cytotoxicity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Peroxidasin (PXDN) is secreted by melanoma cells and binds the NK cell receptor NKG2D, thereby suppressing NK cell activation and cytotoxicity. PXDN depletion restores NKG2D signaling and enables effective NK cell–mediated melanoma killing. These findings identify PXDN as a previously unrecognized immune evasion factor and a potential target to improve

Acral, superficial spreading melanoma arising on melanocytic nevus in a pregnant woman: A case report with review

open access: yesIndian Journal of Dermatology, 2015
We are reporting a case of superficial spreading melanoma (SSM) on left palm of a 37-year-old pregnant housewife. She had a small acquired melanocytic nevus on her left palm since childhood, which changed its consistency and color in the last 4 months ...

COVID-19 and Health Code: How Digital Platforms Tackle the Pandemic in China

open access: yesSocial Media + Society, 2020
As COVID-19 is rapidly spreading around the world, some countries have launched or plan to implement contact-tracing apps to detect exposure risks. In China, the government relies on Health Code, developed by Alipay and WeChat, for identifying people ...

Behavior of susceptible-vaccinated--infected--recovered epidemics with diversity in the infection rate of the individuals

open access: yes, 2013
We study a susceptible-vaccinated--infected--recovered (SVIR) epidemic-spreading model with diversity of infection rate of the individuals. By means of analytical arguments as well as extensive computer simulations, we demonstrate that the heterogeneity ...
