Spectral slopes of colored dissolved organic matter (cDOM) in Pohjanpitäjänlahti bay in May 2021

open access: yes, 2022
Water samples were collected from Pohjanpitäjänlahti bay in May 2021 from four stations along a coastal salinity gradient. Absorption spectral slopes at 275-295, 350-400 and 300-650 nm were calculated for characterization of colored dissolved organic ...

Eddies in Seasonally Ice‐Covered Fjords of the Northern Canadian Arctic Archipelago

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Oceans, Volume 131, Issue 7, July 2026.
Abstract We present the first direct observations of cyclonic passing and standing eddies within landfast ice‐covered fjords where wind stress is unavailable to drive the eddies. Using a series of winter and spring 2025 in situ observations from the northern Canadian Arctic Archipelago, we identify three baroclinic eddies beneath the landfast ice cover.

Enhanced Solar Radiation Attenuation in the Arctic Shelf Driven by Warming‐Induced Terrestrial Inputs

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 12, 28 June 2026.
Abstract Arctic warming accelerates permafrost thaw and coastal erosion, increasing terrestrial material transport to the ocean. Using Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) data (2002–2023), we report a widespread increase in the diffuse attenuation coefficient Kd(490) across Arctic shelves since 2018, notably in the Laptev and Kara ...

Using High Spatio-Temporal Optical Remote Sensing to Monitor Dissolved Organic Carbon in the Arctic River Yenisei

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2016
In Arctic regions, a major concern is the release of carbon from melting permafrost that could greatly exceed current human carbon emissions. Arctic rivers drain these organic-rich watersheds (Ob, Lena, Yenisei, Mackenzie, Yukon) but field measurements ...

Initial Assessment of the Detectability of Cyanotoxin Occurrence Using PACE Satellite Observations

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 11, 16 June 2026.
Abstract Microcystin is a major public health hazard during freshwater cyanobacterial blooms, yet its remote detection remains challenging because it lacks any direct optical absorption features. We demonstrate that hyperspectral observations from NASA's PACE Ocean Color Instrument (OCI) can be used to detect elevated microcystin concentrations by ...

Retrieval of spectral slope of chromophoric dissolved organic matter (S275–295) in Laptev Sea

open access: yesJournal of Hydrology: Regional Studies
Study region: Laptev Sea Study focus: The absorption slopes of colored dissolved organic matter (CDOM) in the spectral range of 275–295 nm (S275–295) is a reliable parameter of the source and transformation of CDOM and dissolved organic carbon (DOC) in ...

Acclimation of Charophytes to Spectral Composition of Light at Limiting Irradiances

open access: yesInternational Review of Hydrobiology, Volume 111, Issue 1, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Irradiance is regarded as a key factor determining the maximum colonization depth (Z0) of submerged macrophytes. However, the relevance of acclimation capabilities to spectral composition under such low‐light conditions remains poorly understood.
